Atrocious. We need better character players, size and north-south players.
Yeah I was disappointed by Jarvis a lot. Seems like he was just happy to be there.

Team Canada didn't really seem like they ever gelled. The intensity of hockey was high but it wasn't the smooth-skating, smooth-passing, confident Team Canada that we knew from the Olympics domination years. They were either gripping their sticks too tight or something was wrong. Binnington being shaky didn't help.

Matthews is playing injured. He didn’t go to Germany in the middle of the season to try the Weiner Schnitzel.

Matthews, who was largely invisible in the gold medal game except for those glorious scoring chances late in the third period and overtime, has a chronic shoulder injury / condition that will probably plague him his entire career. He missed one game in the tournament and hardly practiced with his team. We should respect the courage he showed playing last night.

It was an intense game between two evenly matched teams. It could have gone either way. I think that even the most die hard Canadian fan has to realize that the Americans have now clearly caught up to Canada in the depth and quality of the players / talent that each country now produces. The days when some (most) Canadians could smugly (and erroneously) claim that we could send two or three teams to these best on best competitions and who could each win, are long over. Going forward, it will be a life and death effort to match and beat the hockey powerhouse that has emerged south of our 'arbitrary, boarder. In fact, it has been that way since the mid 1990s. Just most Canadians were blind to that uncomfortable reality.
I saw a stat that said Matthews doesn't have a goal in any game 7 he's ever played....or was that a point? Regardless. And come back to us when the US wins anything in hockey consistently.

Yes, that team wasn’t build to win honestly . Sanheim and Reinhardt were fine (Theodore and morrisey out). But how did those forward made the team instead of Bedard, Suzuki, Scheif..

Marner came up big tonight in a big game.
He actually did.

He’s had a mostly lacklustre tournament. His big goal in game one was the only thing that really stood out. And then he was slowly being demoted.

Tonight though, he made some great plays. There was a little more open ice and he was able to make some great passes. The two tonight were amazing especially the first.

Before the tournament began I said Marner would be the most interesting story. Could he find the next gear? He’s always had the talent and always shrunk away when it mattered most. That wasn’t the case last night.

We’ll see if this spills over to the playoffs.

I really feel like we didn't need an entire Tampa Line. I mean Brayden Point definitely belonged in the tournament, but not so sure about Hagel and Cirelli.

And Marchand is getting up there.

Yes, Marchand and Jarvis were anchors.
Hagel or Cirelli would of been enough.
It was rough for Doughty. Ghule would of been better (I know he’s out)

Olympics: players with earned spots

Tier 1: McDavid Mackinnon Crosby

Tier 2: Marner Point

Bottom 6: Bennett, Hagel, Cirelli

D
Makar - Toews
Theodore
Doughty

On a hot seat
Marchand
Reinhart
Stone
Jarvis
Konecny

Outside looking in
Suzuki
Thomas
Johnston
Celebrini
Bedard

Changes
Celebrini for Marchand
Suzuki for Jarvis
Johnston for Stone
Stone for Konecny

Imo much better team:
Celebrini - McDavid - Point
Crosby - Mackinnon - Johnston
Hagel - Cirelli - Marner
Reinhart - Bennett - Suzuki
(Stone extra)
(Bedard extra, not sure how many extras we get for the Olympics, play Bedard in Crosby spots against small countries to save Crosby for the big games)

Makar - Toews
Theodore - Pietra
Harley -Parayko
Doughty

Is Cooper locked in as head coach next year? I’d much rather someone like Cassidy fill that role. You know, someone who has actually done some coaching over the last 6 years (and won a real cup).

Supply the current core with legitimate top line centre support and speedy wingers and they will cruise to gold.

Hopefully everyone across the board is healthier this time next year.

Wilson and Hyman should have been there instead of Jarvis and Marchand.

Point struggled to find time and space, couldn't win a battle.

In the end, I thought Hagen and Cerelli were effective on the forecheck and away from the puck.

The defense was more than fine.

We needed a feel good like this, that we can win. I was getting pissed at the youtube vids of Americans laughing with the 1st game win.

Trump has declared economic war on Canada ( which Im sure is a violation of some world treaty ) to get us to submit. Like for real. Watching him pal it up with Russia , makes me think about 1939 Poland. Ù
That was much better than the all-star weekend.

Still though, international hockey is not quite the same without the Russians.
That would have been strange. Imagine a Canada v. Russia game and the American fans cheering on Russia.
