Why not? You make a player like Kane fit.
but we need defense...we 've only been limited to 2 goals once this season and that was a game where we put up 45 shots and the other team's goalie played great. Bottom pairing D keeps getting stuck on the ice and giving up odd-man rushes regualarly.

What about Krebs + Savoie for Jiricek?
This somehwat opens one hole to fill another.

I'd argue that the team needs legitimate playmakers to create space and feed all the goal scorers as much as RHD. The only reason it isn't a huge need in the system currently is the due to having both Savoie and Krebs that might be able to fill that need. Moving both of them in one deal leaves the team once again with a ton of shooters and no one to distribute the puck among the future forward ranks.

Let power and Dahlin grow. Draft dman high.

please take him off our hands.
peeke sucks.

Best underlying defensive results on the team.

Great defensive skillset.

Has steadily improved his game.

But he plays on a dumpster fire so he looks bad and we need to get rid of him. Great way to build a team.

The whole team is bad defensively.

Peeke's value isn't tied to his performance on a team where every defenseman has bad underlying stats, it's tied to his traits as a player (handedness, size, skating, contract) – all of which add up to make an enviable asset that fills Buffalo's needs.

Over the years yes.

I don't think you'd know.

He plays hard shutdown minutes and has outperformed his team in the important defensive categories both years, including xGA and GA.

A sucky defenseman would be worse than his team average while playing those minutes.

Buffalo looks like in 24/25

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-xxx
xxx-2023 1st round pick

bryson, Fitzgerald, and Jokiharju would still be under team control in summer 2024.
maybe Ryan Johnson is under contract by then
with their 1st I expect them to pick a RD who would probably play for buffalo in 24/25 with the idea he would move up and be top 4 in 25/26.

they could make a trade involving Jokiharju+ young F for a younger RD with more team control.

in 24 summer Dahlin is getting an 8 yr contract and Power probably gets a bridge similar to Dahlin so they need to be careful on the money

Upcoming draft is short on quality D if some analysts are to be believed. If BPA when Sabres draft duplicates a skillet currently in our prospect pool, I'd advocate trading it for an established top-4 RD with term.

“I don’t think you’d know” — yeah, as if I have never watched a jackets game that Peake has played in. fact check: i’ve probably watched atleast 95 percent of his career games. not hard to have ‘better than average’ stats on this team, considering ‘average’ stats on our team when it comes to defensemen would be absolute laughing stock stats on say, Carolina.

What would Buffalo want from Montreal?
Although I would not be in a hurry to trade Krebs, but we need:

- top 4 RD or good young RD with potential in the top 4

- physical middle-six forward it is desirable that he can play defense, but I'm not sure that I would trade Krebs for this, basically RD priority

Krebs/Weissbach/Portillo

Armia/Mailloux/2023 FLA 1st

Sabres take the cap dump. Weissbach is a nice offensively gifted prospect who has bottom 6 potential but is crowded out in Buffalo on the wing, and Portillo probably won't sign in Buffalo with Levi but there's potential for him to play in Montreal.

That's too big a trade for me. I don't know those others.

The 2 players the Sabres need to move on from are Mittelstadt and Olofsson. Use them together to get a top 4RD and throw in a forward prospect if they are young with team control.
Olofsson doesn't move the needle in exchange for a RHD. If we can get picks for him I'd be happy.

I would stick with Mitts. Close friend to Dahlin and has played well for most of this season with shitty linemates. I'd rather move him into Skinners spot to get his confidence up and to help Tage win some faceoffs...

When it comes to Krebs is value is really low now. I don't see anyone offer anything of real value. Better to send him down and give him a new shot in the NHL next year.

Thinking outside the box here but what if Buffalo moved him in a part of a deal to dump skinners contract to sign P.Kane? ( Hometown boy )

Skinner, Krebs, Rosen and 2nd for future considerations ( Chicago )
lol holy shit no. Skinner is not worth his contract but he's coming off his 5th 30-goal season.... You don't give up two top young players and a fairly high pick to get rid of him for an older (albeit better) winger.

Kane is a top 5 winger in the NHL he isn’t just “better”

Sure he is. But, you're not getting a 30-goal scorer, two 1st round prospects and another top pick for free - just so we can have the privilege of talking to Kane.

Not to mention, Buffalo has gobs of capspace - fitting Kane is not the problem, if we even wanted him. We are at least a couple years away from 'win now'. By then we'll be nearing the end of Skinner's contract with more tradeable salary amounts.
