Hey Anaheim Fans, How do you feel about Miller (possible + or retention) for McTavish and one of Warren or Luneau?

You know you'd consider it

Against a baseline of "you have to explore trading one of these guys," the spicy take isn't that "you should consider trading both of them." The spicy take is "the market for both might be so soft that it's well nigh impossible."

Pettersson is a young player who is early in a very long contract that compensates him extremely well, but whose production hasn't been better than PPG for almost 18 months now. That's rich at $11.6M/yr for the privilege (until the end of time) and carries risk. He does not have NMC/NTC protection, though his decent but only decent production might be all the NMC protection he needs.

Miller is a productive but abrasive character who is well on his way to alienating yet another room after contributing to/causing locker room issues. He is a veteran but early in a very long contract that compensates him well. He also has a full NMC until 2027 and might just be the kind of cat who tells Van management to go f*** themselves; I'm not waiving for anything; trade my nemesis instead if you want to do something.

The Canucks should work to mediate, ideally by bringing in a true leader who can do it from within the room.

Even if the Rangers wanted to do that, they literally couldn’t for cap purposes. Zibanejad would have to be involved.

Rangers have 7.5 million in capspace today with 14 forwards 7 defenseman 2 goalies on the roster.

Due to some raises and whatnot, yes theyd have to make room for next season but they could add Miller for Schneider, callup Mancini and still have capspace THIS year.

So one playoff with Mika AND Miller then dump Mika in the offseason.

What is this nonsense about Miller "being kicked off" Tampa Bay?

They had to let him go because of cap issues.

Then he turned around and became a 100 point power forward two way center.

It's basically the same thing that would've happened to Carolina had they traded Necas at the deadline last season.

He didn't have any problems in the locker room in Tampa?

This is going to be a huge dilemma because Pettersson and Hughes share the same agent.

I think it'll end up being Miller going to the Rangers or Pettersson going to a team in need of a number-one centre.

yeah cap issues i posted this earlier. no lockeroom issues? so overblown. what about him being traded from New york to tampa whats the reasoning?

Nope. At least nothing outside the ordinary.

He was just a cap causality. If I recall, it was him, Johnson and Killorn were who Tampa put out there but Miller had the highest interest. Benning then paid a ransom for what was, at the time, a good offensive player with suspect defensive play.

The rest is history. One of the rare gambles of Jim Benning's that actually worked.

Short of cloning Crosby, bringing Yzerman out of retirement or resurrecting Jean Beliveau, is there anyone even capable of bringing this team together? From the outside looking in, it would appear the situation is almost untenable.

Blake Wheeler is his name. And he’s just sitting there without a contract up for grabs. Let’s see how angry JT gets at his teammates when Blake throws his gear in the shower.

Can someone please post one compelling thing that indicates a true rift between Pettersson and Miller?
Boudreau said he was made aware that there were problems between them before he took the Vancouver job.

Hughes and Tocchet acknowledged the two have issues and that it’s something they need to work through (paraphrasing).

Roster has enough individual talent but they aren't a team. Trade Miller and Pettersson for some young centers or top draft picks. I'd rather watch hungry young team than this mess.

They can’t honestly trade both.

We can trade miller now, take the losing offer, weaponize cap space for next year.

Pettersson was playing pretty well.

That said could be rumours. Unless it’s reported by Ricky Dhaliwal everyone is full of shit.

Yes because edge stats show he was skating slower and shooting softer. Not to mention he fell off a cliff after signing his deal.

Turns out it was a worrying decline because he's even worse this year.
Ah okay. I’m behind the times on the advanced stats I see
