Pettersson Headshot Controversy

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I have been saying that every player is the league's asset and once you harm their asset, you harm the league. The league should learn that headshot is serious and should be treated accordingly. If they are serious about it, 15+ games will not just send a message to Zary but to every player in the league that this type of behavior is not tolerated due to CTE issue regardless of your suspension history. IT is all about the life after hockey, not about themselves. Standing up to a teammate is an ancient behavior. If a player throws a dirty hit, it should be reviewed automatically. A coach could request a such review and this will not be a missed call. This should not be a missed call to prevent ruckus fighting. I wish that they take out the fighting out of the league asap. This used to be necessary fighting because of lack of replay but we do have all the replay available as a tool to the ref. Fighting could cause the CTE as well. Think about it.

If Elias Pettersson the defenseman is D Petey then what are Elias Pettersson the forward and Marcus Pettersson’s monikers?

Also, 5 games for the Zary.

Don't care for either team, this should be 10+ games minimum.

Blatant attempt to injure
Injury(player left the game)
Blindside
Elbowing
Interference
Targeting the head
Retaliation

If Pettersson is out with injury, Zary should be suspended for as many games as Pettersson misses +5-10.

Luke Gazdic is the worst hockey analyst in the history of hockey

He says 2 minutes was more enough

Dude’s most notable highlight was being destroyed by Byfuglien
That Gazdic dude cannot stand Vancouver. He is one of the most biased ‘analysts’ I’ve ever seen. He basically had tears in his eyes when the Oilers lost to the Stars last year. I’ve never seen him with an unbiased commentary yet.

Throw the book at him, exactly the type of shit that needs to be removed from the game. Clear cheap shot head hunting after a clean hit, disgusting. Ahh he played for the wranglers where they basically teach players to pull this stuff. Makes sense.

Two games is a joke.

This was a blindside retaliatory headshot with the puck nowhere near the play.

When you look up “intent to injure” in the dictionary, this play will show up.

Frankly this is one of the closest things to assault on the ice that I’ve seen since the Bertuzzi incident.

If this is allowed, no player is safe on the ice.

At any given time someone can come give you a concussion from behind with minimal repercussions.

The NHL should be embarrassed.

I think he's pretty good......

2 is a little light but atleast its not less. I'd say 2 was bare minimum, so they cleared that line..

Not just this incident but even going back to others... I really wish the league would start taking headshots like this more seriously.

If they turned the dial up on suspensions for headshots, I think over time it would internalize within the players & make a difference.

I think this is on the refs as well, why didn't the off ice official not recommend the 2 minutes be changed to 5 and the game?

The off ice official has access to reviews and angles right?

Humans make mistake and can't catch everything, but there was obvious enough time to quickly see in a replay that it was away from pick, blind side, and head hunting.

2 games is meh, the league needs to have a checklist.

Head hunt? +2 games
Intent to injure? +2 games
Blind side? +2 games.
Playoff race opponent? +5 games
