Rumor: Pettersson and JT Miller Part XVIII: We wont play nice in the team sandbox

If you can't follow a conversation, you don't have to participate you know
One of them is an $11.5m player, the other a $3m player. If you don't understand that those cap hits carry different expectations, idk what to tell you. It's certainly not an endorsement on EP that they're even being compared

The conversation started because I said Kent Johnson doesn't make sense as a trade return for the team's franchise C. It leaves a huge hole.

Perhaps if the player coming back was a wing that added a new dynamic to the team, maybe trading a C for W might make sense, but it doesn't because Kent Johnson (who I like as a player) is quite soft in the scheme of things.

Then he called Petey soft, to which I pointed out that while he isn't a grinder, there is a clear difference between the two players. He throws the body a bit and lays out to block shots often.

Then you inserted yourself for some unknown reason to talk about salary for some reason and continue to post through it.

I'm aware, I can read.

What you're missing is that for his salary, EP is undoubtedly soft.

You seem really excessively invested in this for a 'passive' fan. Like I have seen more than 25 posts of you drive by sniping how much you hate Petey. I'm not sure why, but would it slow you down if I acknowledge on behalf of hfboards that we get it. You don't like him?

Come on, neither are grinders but KJ is on a entirely different level.

In 36 GP Johnson has ONE hit and 12 blocked shots.

In 44gp Pettersson has 40 hits and 57 blocked shots.

The Miller issues apparently stem from him not playing through his knee tendinitis to a level to Miller's liking.
If youre pouting that your teammate wants more out of you, I'm sorry, you're soft. He's not an Evason type player.

Pettersson scored 89 points last year and 102 the year before that, along with being very good defensively. He is very quiet in the locker room - not screaming at or getting on his teammates. You say EP is not innocent. What has he done wrong that gives Miller the right to be getting on him for the last 4 years?

From the outside looking in, it's a very weird situation to follow and kind of unfathomable that a star level player like Elias Pettersson is passively taking this bullying for years from a teammate. A feud between two stubborn personalities is preferable to someone who is so passive they can't solve their own problems for the betterment of the team.

The Canucks best bet here is to just hold onto Pettersson because they'll never get good value for such a big ticket and such bizarre baggage. Guys like Jack Eichel got a very paltry return for Buffalo, and a noted oddball like Patrik Laine basically had no value for years. The likelihood of the Canucks getting a fresh franchise player in this situation is not high.

Miller and Petterson briefly played on the same even strength line last game. Maybe this was Tocchets way of telling the old man up stairs to shut TF up.
They will be lowering ol’ JR into the ground and he will still pop up and tell everyone he wants Jason Zucker no matter what it costs.

That man will never stop showing the world his cards.

Offer a package based around Sillinger so I can say no.

Fantilli is attractive because of draft pedigree, but at the same time he's been pretty bad at the NHL level. He's young obviously so still a lot of time, but most high draft picks who end up becoming studs usually show some pop right away
Ever since taking over the 1C role, he's mostly been playing like one

14 pts in 12 games since the start of the new year

Perhaps Philadelphia is getting ready to take on Miller. He'd likely would go
there as it is close to home. Torts would like Miller, and Philly could use Miller.
I'm not sure who Philly would send back?

I just don't see how either of these guys fit when we're fully healthy. We need defensive help ideally, IMO.
I mean Miller would be your clearcut 1C, he is significantly better than Fantilli at this stage even if he's had a weird year. He's also a beast on the PP. I think he'd fit well :dunno:

Yup, its getting ridiculous and makes the NHL look bad.

Vancouver is the Buffalo of Canada.
Sure bro, maybe the NHL can strive to be more like the NBA or NFL, where there is definitely no big personalities or interpersonal drama

I don't think the Canucks can keep Pettersson, tbh. Miller has loyalists in that room or he would have been jettisoned a while ago... or not resigned. Sacrificing him and keeping Petey will likely result in more drama. Could you imagine Miller getting traded and putting up gaudy numbers... and/or going deep in the playoffs with a team? All the pressure in the world will be on Pettersson to regain form immediately or it will get worse.

As for value, I don't think a Pettersson haul will be underwhelming. Miller, yes. I fully expect the following deals for Pettersson...

TO OTT
Pettersson

TO VAN
Greig
Yakemchuk
2nd
3rd

or...

TO BUF
Pettersson

TO VAN
Cozens
Byram
2nd
3rd

or...

TO CLB
Pettersson

TO VAN
K. Johnson
Mateychuk
2nd
4th

... I think Pettersson will fetch more than we think, especially with many years of club control and the cap rising significantly. Let's not forget, this cat scored 100+ less than 2 years ago! Make no mistake, teams will pay up... all it takes is two of them to get into a bidding war.

Philly just sent the center the Canucks would of asked for back to Calgary.
