Peterborough Petes 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

Just saw this afternoon that Ryerson Edgar may not be reporting to IceDogs.. at first glance it sure feels like it might be worth it for Oke and co to try and make a deal for him at the right cost?
No chance. They already likely have three 16yo F on next years roster as it is. They wouldn’t want to add a 4th. Plus we don’t have the draft picks.

Busy year for hockey in Peterborough next year, Top Prospects game and now the Telus Cup

I wonder which draft picks from the most recent draft will make the U18 team?

Guys like Tout, Rooyakkers and Robertson would make sense. Recent local draft picks Jones and Williams hopefully as well.

As the GM of a small market team, Oke has to be savvy in order to succeed.
Here is another example of a smart move by Oke and the Petes.
  • hosting the Connor McDavid draft prospects game next year at the PMC will be a great carrot to dangle for prospective imports. Novotny's draft year is next year and some that Oke could select this year that would be in their draft year as well. Here are some guys that Oke is likely to have his eye on at the U18 tournament that just started in Texas......
Simon Katolicky(F) (CZE), Vladimir Dravecky(D) (CZE), Adam Goljer(D) (SVK), Juho Piiparinen(D) (FIN), Olivers Murnieks(F) (LAT), Niklas Aaram-Olsen(F) (NOR), Viggo Björck(F) (SWE), Ivar Stenberg(F) (SWE)

I hope he’s in attendance to put pen to paper with Novotny!

As hosts of the Telus Cup.......the Peterborough U18 team will have an automatic entry.

This is great for Oke and the players selected in the priority draft because guys who would normally choose to play U18 on a team closer to home will have more incentive to play with the U18 Peterborough team, get billeted in town and practice with the Petes whenever possible. Like @Petes mentioned: Tout, Rooyakkers, Robertson and probably Wood, who I like as well and others. These guys won't really have a chance to crack the Petes' lineup at a very competitive camp this fall but, playing U18 in Peterborough, they will get used to the culture/expectations and be better prepared the following season.

sorry, what would that have to do with the petes specifically? if the kid is not that great he wont make the prospect game. conversly, if they are great they would make it regardless of it it was in peterborough or not?

fair enough, but many imports take time to adjust to the league and there is always a chance that things don't go great to start the season.
I'm assuming that, as hosts, the Petes would have some leverage to ensure that Fitzgerald, Novotny and ? get to play in the game.........maybe I'm wrong.
Either way the buzz that it will create for the Petes and Peterborough as hosts can only be beneficial IMO.

the last sentence is 100 percent true. i just dont think the hosts have any say.

I am hearing rookie camp will be May 3/4… will be one of the most intriguing ones in a while! Curious to see if guys like DiCunzolo, Adduono, Hage are on the roster….

Also - Matthew Perreault already rocking the Petes gear

Just read an article about the Tappara U18 program in Finland, where Katolicky played this year.
This is a quote at the end of the article. I'm sure this quote is before Oke had a chance to talk to him :thumbu:

"Katolicky will turn 17 in the summer and is planning on returning to Finland for another year. But at his age, circumstances can change quickly. For now, he is relishing his Tappara championship and hoping to contribute to Czechia here at the U18."

Here is the link to the article:

If the ohl does go thru with allowing OA goalies to not count as one of the 3 OA’s that’ll be good news for the Petes as there would be more suitors potentially for Bowen
Even after bowen is dealt, I wonder how things are going to work between Rye, Lee-Stack and Johnston... Feels like there could be another move to be made between those three as well.

Unless I missed some it's a pretty light year for OA goalies anyway, only 9 from last seasons rosters. Hilldebrant, Gillespie, Erliden, Day, Vaccari, Robertson, Bowen, Krawchuck, and Costanzo.

It would not be surprising from what I've heard.

Has anyone heard any rumours about when the development camp will be? The team was just finishing it up at this point last year. I can't imagine it'll be too long since the Lakers start on the 22nd, so the weekend of the 17th would probably be the latest?

I’ve heard it’s this coming weekend - May 3/4. Shocked they haven’t announced anything yet.
