Peterborough Petes 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

The whole thing just sucks to see because you have a stud in Rye and they are just wasting his talents. Wilson has always been a hot head behind the bench and this does not shock me in the least. Although it is a two way street so can't really point fingers. Just an outsiders opinion.
They've definitely wasted Rye because Wilson won't stop using Bowen as #1. Which makes no sense at this point. But most things Wilson does make no sense, hence the state of the team currently.

I understand the frustration with Rye's playing time but Oke doesn't want to make the same mistake with Bowen as he did with Sztuska.
That means he needs Bowen to play close to half of the games down the stretch so that he will have some value before next season starts. If he only plays a couple of games to give Rye a rest how does that look to potential buyers? Any draft picks that Oke can get for Bowen will be helpful as the Petes are heading into a window of contending 🤞 .

As far as Rye goes, if he only plays half of the games remaining his progress will not be hurt. He has shown that he is a good starting goalie and will be the top choice heading into next season.

And it is development league, for all players. The true rookies have 3-4 seasons after this to continue their development. The 19 yr olds might just have a few weeks plus a possible playoff run remaining.

Hasn't been announced yet, but two games for Strohack for being the third man in a one-sided fight.
There could also be more for him, the stuff that hits the API is listed per suspension not merged like on the media notes page.

There doesn't seem to be a market for Bowen. I doubt teams are lining up for an OA goalie unless he's a superstar. They'll likely end up losing him for little to nothing. He's been in the league a long time. Other teams know all about him. There's nothing much to showcase. At this point the team is heading for a repeat of this years' debacle with the goalie/OA situation once training camp rolls around again.

It is. But Wilson kept saying you're either all in or all out. So why are you clinging to using a veteran as your starter when it makes zero difference in terms of wins. There's no playoff push. This is a lost season. Constantly using Bowen just contradicts the stuff Wilson said when they traded everyone off. Using Bowen does nothing to help when you've got Johnston waiting in the wings too and you're the worst team in the league (country?). Nothing against Bowen, but these decisions make no sense.

Haven't been since the start of the year or so.

I don't think there's much stranger going on, outside this weeks cluster, than the mess in goaltending that has been happening all season. Pretty much every game Rye has played (mostly away games) the team that they're playing raves and talks about him like he should be the starter and the goto but this team keeps going back to Bowen for some reason. At this point, it's a pretty textbook sunk cost fallacy.

Who did the Petes sell-off this season? The Petes were on something like a 19 game skid before acquiring Bryant. I think the additions of Bryant and Stonehouse helped the younger players develop in a more competitive environment. Removing Bowen would not help imo.

Not this off-season. But the pig purge mid-last season.

Bryant and Stonehouse have been fine, but the improvement has been negligible. Just more inexplicable GM/coaching decisions this season.
