Peterborough Petes 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Yeah so that just happened.

Barrie is a stacked team and honestly did the Petes just totally outplay them or what. Maybe the Colts had road legs but wow good effort by the Petes. Soft goal let in by Rye actually exaggerates what the Colts did here. Stonehouse looks good and Kaiser fits in nicely as well. Hey if we win the rest of our games this year, we'll end up in 5th place ;)

Before tonight's game I would have said of the Stonehouse trade that it's an upgrade but what's the point of giving away picks in a season where you're finishing last and I basically feel the same now but he is a pretty huge upgrade. I just don't get to what end. They'll be a better team but are the playoffs a realistic opportunity? I guess if they play like they did tonight...

Don’t really understand going with 5 would you not call up marentette at least? I’m assuming both guys are hurt. Or at least Gowan is and maybe strohack is getting moved but I doubt it
I overheard someone mention while at the game that Marentette is serving a suspension so they're not able to call him up till that's been served.

I also heard that Jenkin is out for the rest of the season at least... so yeah, there's that...

Anyone shocked that rolling 5 D they were better than most games having Jenken/Marentette in?

Would be nice to have Gowan in the lineup though.

Marentette got 4 games I believe for a premeditated fight.
The guy he fought was the same guy he beat up in Pete’s Dev camp this summer

You indeed appear correct on both.

I would hope Oke wouldn’t turn that deal down if it was presented to him.
Never know with him in a year where they are in the basement they technically bought and spent assets on OA’s. Unless the plan is to have Bowen back next year and Johnston as the backup then i don’t know why you’d keep Bowen if there was any interest at all in him

That better not be the plan. I think Easton Rye is already the superior goalie. Go with the local duo and free up the OA spot to patch a hole somewhere else in the lineup after you see what you land in priority + import drafts.

IMO, keeping an overage goalie means you're going for it. That's certainly not next year and considering their reluctance to use an A card for Johnston this season he's not going to be the backup in a push season next year if they were.

It doesn't seem like any more moves are going to materialize today, so I'd say the rest of this season is making Bowen look as good as possible to get a good return on him after this season.

Based on this season, they'll bring Bowen to camp but then not play him but then not trade him either. And then maybe play him once or twice and then trade for another overage player, then maybe sit him again. Then release him for nothing. Then trade for another overage player to replace the overage player they previously traded for. Then release the overage player they started with.

If the whole goal was to make playoffs this year they should have just kept stzsuka he would have gave them the best chance to win games. I’m just not sure what keeping Bowen does if he’s not back next year anyways
