I am going to make a bold prediction. The Petes will win another OHL Championship in a few years before Oshawa wins one again.

That may very well come to fruition. This is clearly Oshawa’s “all-in” season and their last chance at a league championship for at least another three years.

And for an “all-in” season, the only thing with thinner than their roster is how thin their draft pick ammunition is.

One thing you’ll come to find out about me is that I never sugar coat anything and act like a delusional homer as many of the pom pom wavers do. I just call it as I see it.

But I was thrilled to see Oshawa dump a mediocre back up like Noah Bender on Flint for a 4th and a 7th - - which promptly got me banned from the Flint board.

It’s embarrassing how thin skinned and hyper sensitive the fan boys are.
Has Gravelle proven to be worthy of the backup role? I get that you think Bender was a mediocre backup but all the Generals fans are telling us how bad Gravelle was as well? I guess if Oster goes down they're up a creek without a paddle anyway?

I’ll say this as gently as possible to try and avoid ruffling any feathers - - Noah Bender has proven that he’s not an OHL level goaltender. Anyone who watched him flounder around in relief of Oster during the playoffs last year can attest to this. Getting a 4th and a 7th for him was a massive windfall.

Oshawa burned a 2nd round pick on Gravelle two years ago so you’d expect a reasonable level of competence from him. He looked like a serviceable back up in his first game, but he was God-awful against Peterborough last night and looked like he belonged in Jr C.

In a perfect world, Gravelle would start around 20 games this year and show well then take over as the starter next year. But after last night’s debacle, the trust level in him has taken a major hit.

Last year Oster started SIXTY (60) games in the regular season then started another TWENTY-ONE (21) in the playoffs. That’s completely unrealistic. No wonder Oster looked totally gassed during the London series.

I don’t have a great deal of confidence that Gravelle can fill the back up role for Oshawa this year. The good news is that there’s at least a half dozen hopeless bottom feeders throughout the league to obtain a useful back up goalie. I’m not going to name any names because I don’t want to crush and early season delusions, but it’s not going to cost more than a middling draft pick or two for one of these goalies.

Which players are on the trade list?
I don’t think the Petes have any plans to trade away many of their players. Most of Peterborough’s players are 16 to 18 years old and will be part of the team for next few years. They have to trade/waive an overage. They will keep Gavin Bryant, and two of Jonathan Melee, Chase Lefebvre and Ryder MacIntyre with the later likely the one going. They only have four 19 year olds, Quentin Page, Martin Matejicek, Matthew Jenken and Zack Bowen. I am not sure if any of them will be traded. I believe the Petes might trade for a couple of players to try to improve the team.

Let’s try to think it through logically - - if Peterborough didn’t want to keep Sztuska as an OA goalie this year, do you honestly think they’ll want to keep Bowen next year?

Surely they’re not going to make the same mismanagement mistake two years in a row.

Who wins a game first the petes or San Jose sharks?🤔
Wanted to ask you about Caden Taylor. I figure you'd give me an honest review. After the trade , read a few post here saying he would be a " stud"

In your opinion what's his game like and I haven't been reading much positive reviews regarding his game this year. What are his shortcomings. Is he a draftable player this spring.

What's your insight if you don't mind sharing

My two cents - the kid's a sniper and shows some high end skill. . He's been showing some physicality of late but what does he weigh like 170 soaking wet? Taylor needs to diversify his game so more of the physical play is good but he needs to become a more complete player and be more noticeable on the ice , work hard both ends- he'll get there this year I believe.

He’s definitely draftable and will get drafted I’m pretty sure. I think the biggest thing with him is adding some size and maturing tbh. He reminds me of a younger Othmann both guys who scored at will in there midget years and then first year of junior didn’t score as much. Mind you Othmann got to play in Swiss against men and then came back to the ohl and his second year potted 50. I haven’t noticed it as much this year but Taylor had some bad body language during games and it reminded me of the same with Othmann. I think if he modelled his game after Othmann and was the power forward type player he would do well, needs to defend better for sure but his shot alone is good enough to score 40 plus in this league.

Want fun fact? Sharks and Wolves have something in common… zero championships.

You do realize he’s only starting his second year right? He still has time to become the stud you don’t want him to be.

Taylor will need to put in a lot of work this season if he wants to be drafted.
His body language, careless effort and reckless play in his own end are all big red flags for me,
I do not think this is what the Petes envisioned they were getting in that trade.
I think they knew what they were getting into but thought there magical coach would fix him.

Fixing that many bad habits will take more then a couple months that's for sure.

Periods 1 and 2 in Oshawa Sunday night the team did have flashes of looking like a structured team.
I'm not sure if the talent is there to make a run for 8th spot but it will be interesting to see what kind of progress can be made with how this season has started.

I don't get the Othmann/Taylor comparisons at all. Othmann is/was way more engaged physically and unafraid to go to the dirty areas. Taylor shies away from contact and is a total non factor or net negative defensively. Taylor also has a pro level shot and great offensive instincts, there are almost no parallels in the two players other than maybe a perceived "attitude" but I don't think that applies either. The knock on Othmann was teammates didn't like him (that magically went away when they started winning) where Taylor despite his disengagement at times in the play, is by most accounts and interactions I've seen well-liked by his teammates

Gonna make a wild prediction here today- you guys get your first win tonight vs the #1 seed in the east

Niagara will be walking in thinking they’re going to blow you guys out and you guys will catch them off guard. You played well against the fronts and bulldogs last week. You’ll be looking to build off of that.

Some stats I am looking at are:

Last 5 years at Peterborough 8-0-1

Last 5 years 15-1-2

Last year both teams went 2-1-1 against eachother

Last year you guys won the last matchup 7-5 on March 9

Looking forward to watching the game and hopefully for your sake the first win of the season.

I think once he matures he could become that type of player if he wants to engage in the physical aspect of the game. That’ll be up to him whether or not he wants to do it. It would be in his best interest to play that style of game if he wants to play at the next level. You can’t be bad in your own end and then be a perimeter player only in the offensive end of the ice.

I believe Peterborough is without Fitzy and gowan tonight.
Also McCallum still out. -I will be surprised if they can overcome that.

Yeah it might not be pretty. And since the team refuses to roster enough players, depending on the health of Page, they'll probably be going with 16/17 skaters tonight and/or Marentette in the lineup, which is basically the same thing.
