He was absolutely awful here in Washington. Should have been fired after 15 months, but made it a full 36.

My biggest gripe with him was his marginalization of our young players. It was clear we needed to be younger and faster, and he would only use younger players if the vets were hurt.

In our case, the youth started leading the way. But as soon as the vets were healthy, it was back to the press box or Hershey.

When this guy is fired the day after the season ends, will he be hired again?

Rags should try Therrien Or Julien or even Vigneault again :)
I know your joking but Julien was actually a really good, albeit very flawed, coach. His team's play a really good defensive structure, he's been great at getting bad dmen to play a good defensive system. He's been handed a lot of mediocre dmen (and a few stars) and has made the teams work.

Give him am offensively focused assistant and a good development staff and he'd be a better option than 75% of the league.

The Rangers looked so unstructured last night. Shesterkin kept it close but they were not covering this area of the ice effectively:

(Jets scoring chances 3/11/25)

OTOH their PK is great

Either both or one of Laviolette/Housley will not be back net season. While I hope it's both, I think any coach is going to struggle when the players put 0 effort in. Whatever Housley is doing on team defense should never get him another job at the NHL level. For Laviolette, I can see another team giving him a shot after he's canned, but his NHL opportunities are running out. 0 Adjustments in game other than just swapping players around. Bad decisions all season. Again, it's 100% possible this team just doesn't follow anything, but his time here is coming to an end.

I mean he led them to the Presidents Trophy last year 🤷‍♂️

I’m assuming he won’t he the Rangers coach next season though
Yup. The Rangers will for certain fire the coach after their season ends. They are falling further from the playoffs. This season has been really bad. Imo it’s not the coach’s fault. Lots of turmoil caused by the GM is more the reason. But the coach will get their ducks blame and the axe. I predict Rick Tocchet will be the Rangers coach next season.

Laviolette will keep getting jobs. I think a lot of GMs are aligned with the idea of using vets over young players.

Like Tortorella, he’s well known to give his teams an early bump but then run out of shelf life.

If your big complaint is that he’s not giving time to rookies and AHL callups, ask why your GM would have hired this particular coach in the first place.

Some coaches feel that young players don't know how to win yet at an NHL pro level. Apparently you need to lose first before you can dig deep to win. They rather see a vet make a safe play than a young up-coming player make a creative play, one that could backfire or end up being good play.

I have this horrible feeling Rangers and Penguins will switch coaches with each other this summer.
Would be funny if the Rangers and Canucks swapped coaches again

He's an oldschool coach that gets instant results in his first and maybe first 2 years but rarely lasts longer than 3 years. That was well known before he was hired by the Rangers.

There was a lot going on with the Rangers off-ice this season, but teams don't give 0 effort to a coach who has their ear.

Laviolette teams need to be firing on all cylinders offensively to have success. If they're not, the defensive structure isn't there for his teams to fall back on.

Don Sweeney is going to be chomping at the bit to hire one of those two Massachusetts native retread coaches this summer.

If the Pens fire Sully, 100% he's coming to Boston to coach his son in law. If not, they'll probably hire Laviolette. Rangers can pick between Jay Leach and Sacco.
