That press conference will probably be the high point of the offseason. Holland has less flexibility than last summer to upgrade the roster.

And the odds are very low of his phone ringing with a call from a superstar’s agent out of the blue saying his client only wants to come to LA.

I don't think Doughty makes it to camp. Wishful thinking I know

No matter what happens I just like that they're apparently putting him on notice.

Your golden era is over, you don't get to dictate terms anymore.

Doughty could be still very good with managed top pairing minutes, and absolutely excellent on a 2nd pairing.

IF he realizes his limitations, or has them managed for him.

I'm not sure his ego will let him, so 50-50 that he stays imo.

I would say he realized his limitations and played within himself last season, which is why he had such a poor season offensively. He hung way back in transition since he can't skate fast enough to catch an opponent if there is a turnover in the neutral zone. It resulted in easy clears on his side when the Kings dumped the puck in since he wasn't at the point yet.

Honestly, I liked what Laviolette had to say. He does seem like someone who is going to hold the team accountable and will finally focus on offense and attacking. Whether or not he can accomplish that with this roster is another thing, but it was nice to hear. Holland said the right things. It would be impressive if they were able to modify the roster and fully adapt it to Laviolette's system, like they were indicating, but that is easier said than done. I guess we will wait and see. The most interesting thing said from the whole presser to me was when Holland flat-out said he was okay with either option with Doughty, indicating that he can sign him or he was open to trading him.
I like the idea of trading Doughty...for like the last 5-6 years.

It looks like they may actually do that. Holland obviously doesn’t view him as captain material, something changed from the end of season presser to the Lavy presser. Seemed optimistic at the end of season presser and then completely downplayed it at the Lavy presser.

Only exchanged one text and that was for a meeting, not talking numbers or next years role etc. Looks like he’s going to be moved to me because he’s getting older, slower and more injury prone. Obviously, I don’t think we get a much in return.

This dude is going to piss Doughty off or maybe get something out of his corpse. Between him and big Matt I think the country club big feelings parade is over. We still don’t have the horses on D or down the middle though. Hopefully this starts the deadweight cutting process.

Kempe, Clarke, and bread man flourish.
Kings will trade draft picks to get Trocheck and maybe Gavrikov...or Zibanejad and Gavrikov

Yes.

We're rearranging the deck chairs on the USS Robitaille, but it's still sailing towards Antarctica where we're destined to roll around in frozen penguin shit for the next 10 years.

I'd prefer to head towards Cancun and hang out with bikini clad latinas, but to each their own.
Yes, having fun around the Gulf of Mexico 👍

Remember when LA started transitioning to a faster, offensive-based system during Blake's tenure, then blew it up and started transitioning back to defense-first style. Now we are transitioning back again... Who the f*** has a vision for this team that's going to last for more than 2 or 3 drafts?
You have to have the horses to transition and the Kings don't have enough of them but you never know...a signing via UFA land here a recall from Ontario there and a trade here and there could do it

Watched the presser. A few things stood out.

- Sounds like Doughty will not be extended, both sides exchanged one text, for a meeting next week. Doesn’t sound like communication is going well. Holland’s tone was different than a couple weeks ago. I wonder if Lavy told Holland that we need to get younger and more agile on the defensive side? If DJ smith was hired, I don’t think extending Doughty would be in doubt.

-DJ smith is moving on. Not returning as assistant.

- Holland talked to 20 GMs at the combine. There’s definitely going to be some moves made.

- Lavy wished he had a chance to coach Kopitar, didn’t mention zip about Byfield. (Hmm is something cooking?). Though Lavy did mention the forward group is talented enough for his offense.

Overall, it sounds like Lavy did his homework on the Kings, understanding the issues plaguing the team and organization. Kept mentioning culture and habits, something we haven’t heard repeatedly since a certain GM (also from Massachusetts) was fired. Seems like a great hire, provided the Kings make some corresponding moves to help Lavy run the team the way he wants to.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Lavy the original "dry island bartender"?

Realizing that the defense is shit at puck moving and generating offense, and that it needs to change is a good thing
Doing so after signing Cody Ceci and Brian Dumoulin for a combined seven years is a tough pill to swallow

Lavy will instill his system to the best it can be installed within the talent they have on their team this coming season. Holland is going to have to be real creative inorder to bring the players they need for Lavy to get this team where it needs to be. Lavy is right. The league is an atack with speed offensive not sit back and depend solely on defense. Just look at the Cup finals. Both teams are attacking each opther like crazy. 4 Goal leads are not safe. Kings stlye is outdated and not effective.
