Hours before he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, now-former Los Angeles Kings goaltender Peter Budaj spoke exclusively with Frozen Royalty for a story that was entirely different from what it became.

What did Budaj say about what he had accomplished with the Kings and about what he intended to do, as the backup goalie, going forward, working to help the Kings get into the playoffs.

ALSO: Kings President/General Manager's thoughts on the big trade that sent Budaj to the Lightning for goaltender Ben Bishop.

It was the same way with [Zatkoff]. He was very helpful to me. He was very positive and he worked very hard. He was s great teammate and he really helped me through his attitude and the way he approached the game, so I have to thank him, too. I want to be the same thing with whatever happens with [Quick]. I want to be there—whatever he needs. You’re playing for the logo in front, not the name on the back.â€

Good timing with this article, Gann.

2 Quality, quality guys. I wish the best of success for Budaj. What a 2-season Journey! Zatkoff may be able to give Jack Campbell some time off and not get daggers shot off at him. Maybe improve his game.

After Budaj won that game on Thursday and Dewey gave him that great big bear hug, I had a feeling that might be the last time I see Budaj play for us. So bittersweet.

Thanks for everything, Budaj! Sniff. Darn allergies.

I've no complaints on Budaj. He was great for us and so glad to see him getting back to the NHL.Its unfortunate that it's a business and trades happen.

When the Kings win the Cup this year ;) I hope they think about putting his name on it. He is a major reason they still have a chance. I knew they didn't do that for JJ in 2012 but this is different

Totally different scenario I think. If it happened, he'd be getting a ring for sure.

Kudos to his performance with the Kings this year for sure. But as a San Diego resident and Gulls fan, I'd be lying if I said I weren't relieved he's not coming back to the Reign for their playoff push (first round would be against the Gulls if the playoffs started today). Best of luck to him with the Lightning!
