Perunovich traded for 2026 conditional 5th to Islanders

No games in back-to-back weeks for Scotty Hockey. Only 2 games in the last 5 weeks. 16 games left in NYI's schedule. He would have to find his way into 11 of those for the conditions to kick in.

He's been scratched by the Isle as many games as he has played for them. Barring more injuries to NYI blueline, I doubt he hits 20.

That begs the question: Do we get anything if he falls short if 20? The condition was not widely reported or well explained. We are assuming we get nothing, but could we get a 6th or 7th instead?

Probably doesn't matter much either way. However, it hurts to get nothing from a player that still had value at one point when it was obvious to many of us we needed to move on from him.

100%. Been advocating for 3 years to move him. Should have moved him a couple years ago, or after he had one of his 7 game stretches where he played ok. Personally, I would have traded him the offseason after we lost in the playoffs to the Avs. The one where Krug got hurt and Peru had something like 4 or 5 points in 7 games. Could have probably gotten a 3rd or 4th for him that summer. He was and will always be nothing more than an overhyped AHL/College player that couldn't cut it at the NHL level.

I don't think that stretch of playoff games did anything to impact his potential trade value. He had 4 points in 7 playoff games and 3 of them were secondary assists. He also went -4 in those 7 games, our coach repeatedly went with 11F and 7D to insulate him, he played less than 13 minutes in each of those games, and then he was healthy scratched so we could go back to 12F/6D for the final 2 games of the playoffs. At that point, he was still existing in a realm of pure potential and the playoff performance didn't do anything to suggest it was more/less likely he'd reach that potential.

The year you are talking about was his first year as a pro and he had played 17 AHL games, 19 NHL regular season games, and those 7 playoff games by the summer of 2022. I have zero regret about not trading a low floor, high upside guy after his 1st pro season for a draft pick that is noticeably worse than the one you used to pick them.

And then he hurt his shoulder a few months later, his shot was completely useless upon his return, and that was that. His (already super) uphill battle to make it as a 3rd pair PP specialist got pretty much impossible once it became clear that he had no chance of ever being a shooting threat. I don't think that he would have rounded out the rest of his game enough to be an effective NHL player, but that was the final nail. But that doesn't mean I want the organization cutting bait on guys for pennies after less than 50 pro games because they are long shots. I'm fully content that the opportunity cost of trying to get him to his ceiling was not recovering whatever mid-round pick we could have maybe gotten in 2022.

Thanks for the recap, as my memory was a little foggy. I just remember stretches, and some overhype that went with it, where I felt we could have recouped something. Totally agree that I don't like to sell low either, but he just didn't seem like a guy that was ever going to be much. Many Blues forum fans, especially on the STLToday site, can't stand Alexandrov and want to cut him. He's another "older prospect" that I'm not sure how it will work out. Seems to be a pretty solid AHL player but hasn't done much at the NHL level. Personally, I don't think he's been given much of a chance, as we continue to use vets for our bottom 6 roles in recent years (Faksa, Sunny, Joseph, Walker, etc...). Hope he gets one last chance later this year or in camp next year, assuming he signs with us again.
