People who think Nathan Mackinnon is the best player in the world, can we all just be kind of agree that… he’s not?

And that’s the only metric that truly matters. Not meaningless regular season trophies.
For the greatest players to be tiered, yes. The greatest are all fantastic. They all win awards. They all have big points. Dionne had 1700! Housley 1200! But neither could lead their clubs to a Cup.
Imo the greatest players actually tier themselves by their Cups. Maybe that’s partly why McDavid was so visibly angry in the room after going down 0-3 against the Panthers? He knows he needs the Cup to cement his legacy?

So if Ray Bourque hadn't been traded to Colorado at the end of his career... he wouldn't have been one of the greatest?

Dionne played on mediocre teams. Do you believe that if you switched Dionne and Lafleur, the Wings/Kings would've been winning Cups and the Habs wouldn't have?

Terrific players sometimes play on decidedly non-terrific teams.

Ray Bourque is (imo) one of the greatest for sure. Was he leading the Avs to the Cup though, or was he just a supporting player?
Not too sure how he sees it. He might think just having his name on the Cup cements his legacy.
You don’t need to agree. That’s fine. But (imo) the greatest players tier themselves and use the Cup to do it.

He looked very pedestrian last night. Couldn't hold onto pucks, losing most battles, and afraid to attack the net. No idea where the "2nd best player in the world" was. Hopefully he gets fired up for the remaining games, if he played with half as much heart as the Tkachuk brothers did last night then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

He is just behind mcdavid
Who IMO will get the max percentage of the cap offerrd to him
Hes the nhls ohtani

Nobody should get the max if they want to actually win the Cup. It takes a team to win it and you need to spread the cap on a quality supporting cast.

Quite a few do actually.

I suppose your right but they are mistaken in my opinion.

When you have players who have won cups and played great in the playoffs before not looking great against the US why can't we just give the US credit for playing great defensively?

Jake Guentzel is obviously the best player in the world, since he was 1st star
Best player last night for sure.
Involved, strong puck possession plus he had 5 shots 2 goals. When he had an opportunity to shoot, he shot.
But my....Dylan Larkin!!!! What speed!!! Someone was tapping the "X" button hard.
What acceleration.

McKinnon I think just had one shot.
Just saw too many wasted opportunities by McDavid and too many horrible plays by Marner and Crosby.

He just needs the zebras to turn the game into a ref fest contest. It's like gasoline to his fire when that happens.

Its also why he is constantly voted one of the whiniest/entitled players in the league. He EXPECTS lopsided officiating in his favor.

Ray Bourque was awesome in Colorado. He was a major part of their 2001 cup win

Mackinnon has been a disgraceful so far.

He needs to show up last few games.

In olympics next year we need to run these forwards:

Mcdavid, Mackinnon, Bedard, Celibrini, Crosby, Marner, Stone, Schiefele, Hagel, Point, Reinhart (maybe, I'd see if someone younger and more dynamic is a better fit as reinhart is a bad playoff/high level producer), Dylan Guenther

Extras: bennett and konecny

No space for guys like cirelli, marchand and jarvis

Defenseman

Makar, Theodore, Morrisey, Harley, Toews, Pietrangelo, and then Weegar and maybe Doughty as extras

no space for Sanheim (#3/4D), parayako (#3D) on the team

Goalies

Logan Thompson, Adin Hill

No space for Binnington

...Sid's playing hurt, we all knew that...Marner is just Marner; complete trash when pressure is on...
