People owe Eric Tulsky an apology

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

GMs dont get an A for effort. The Rantanen saga was an absolute failure by Tulsky, but mainly because he is a hockey outsider. He's not part of the longtime old boys club, which may have afforded him more access/vetting of Rantanen if he were. At the end of the day, you got a dwarf in Stankhoven who probably maxes out as a low end 2nd liner and a couple 1st round lotto tickets that are more likely to be used as trade chips. Goaltening continues to be crap and the forwards still are not fear inducing. Dundon is the problem. Im grateful that Viola hands Zuto the keys to the car and gtfo's.

Andersen has a much better stat line than Bob, and Kotchetkov's is basically the same as Bob. Do you consider your team's goaltending to "be crap"?

Also, if turning
Necas + Drury + 2nd + 4th into
Hall + Stankoven + two 1sts + two 3rds

is an "absolute failure", I hate to see what your requirements for success are. A 7th for McDavid minimum?

Bob has 2 Vezinas, top 10 in wins all time, has played in 2 straight cup finals and is the current nhl's reigning stanley cup winning starter.

What has andersen or kochetkov done?

As for carolina, they went from necas to rantanen to stankhoven. Failure.

I bet if if we go back 24 months you have a much different viewpoint in Bob's career

Panthers fan?

Aren’t Canes stacked in terms of cap space and draft picks? If you wanna talk SC, then you would know building a team that can roll four effective lines is required. From what I can tell they’re well on their way. I may not agree with Tulsky but few mention his recognition of what the team needed and then his willingness to go for it. I give him credit for trying and salvaging the situation with an excellent return.

Bob is good. He’s just one player though. Let your team’s play prove they’re the best on the ice instead of using your mouth as a megaphone. Any of the contending teams.including the Canes can win. Only a fool would dismiss them.

Carolina is 3-4 years or so away from those pics even having an impact. If their goal is to sacrifice the next couple/few years for something further down the road then his haul was not too bad. Question is will Aho who is 27 wait to potentially 30-31 to compete? Carolina is a fun team to watch and i think they could have the pics be something special. However losing Necas, Rantanen (yes i know only 12 games) is going to sting a lot. I love Stank and im happy he is doing well in Carolina, bro is 100% energy and speed.

I didn't think Rantanen would sign in Carolina but flipping him for what they got is pretty good. Stankoven is a prototypical balls to the wall Carolina tempo forward and they'll use the picks probably to trade for someone with massive term in a trade this summer I think. Petterson is the guy that keeps coming to mind with the 2 first rounders + his contract + Carolina's need for a big time center behind Aho or maybe even pushes Aho down to 2C. But it looks like he's regaining his game back a bit after the Miller trade so Vancouver might just hold onto to him at this point. We'll see what they do there.

Those picks will get flipped if I had to bet, there's no need for Carolina to stockpile picks in this current window

You’ve heard about using picks to acquire players haven’t you?

Wait..what? You can? Not sure how i never realized that in the 40 years I've watched and played hockey. :eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3:

If you think those pics are going to return the value they lost you're likely mistaken but we shall see!

actually it is. Because you don’t have Rantaned or Necas anymore

You have 5 dollars. You trade that 5 dollars for 10 dollars. Then you trade that 10 dollars for 20 dollars.

How much money did you gain in that transaction?

By your logic, you've spent $15 to gain $20, a net gain of only $5. A normal person would think "I started with $5 and ended with $20, and thus earned $15"

Value? Stars have a $12M AAV player in Rants who your coaches insist on stapling to Hintz when it’s not working. You can try him with Duchene or Harley but that raises problems of its own. Duchene has a one year contract. You think Stars are going to re-sign Duchene for $3M given the market for 2C’s? And putting a $12M player on the second and third lines? I get that the Stars aren’t immediately financially strapped next year but beyond that from what I read, they’re going to have to make some hard choices even with the cap rising.

So educate me how Rants keeps the Stars’ salary structure intact while also allowing them to shore up their D?

I hope Rants works out for Dallas except against the Avs. But in the short term, the best you can say about the value in the Stars’ acquisition of Rants is that the value is still TBD for them. Canes and Avs certainly got value. I actually think Rants going to the Stars has as much likelihood to backfire as to succeed. 50/50.

You should run for office. You ability with deflection is astounding. This is not a Dallas thread.

Carolina made out well considering this could have gone down as one of the worst deals of all time. Stankoven isn't going to sell season tickets like Rantanen would but he's going to do well in Carolina being on their top line and #1PP.

You do realize that the Canes won the Cup in your moneyball timeframe? They also have done really well since 2019 and have demonstrated a solid chance at the prize every year. A Cup, three conference finals and two second round appearances is pretty damn good if you ask most Carolina fans. "Stay in the race" seems to work well for us, despite you characterizing this as a loser philosophy.

2006 Cup
2009 Conf final
Drought
The 2006 Cup was not under the same management group or ownership. Nothing until 2018 was.
2019 conf final
2020 First round
2021 2nd round
2022 2nd round
2023 Conf final
2024 2nd round
This is a pretty good track record! The Canes could be beyond "pretty good" though and they have now immediately backtracked on both of their big "be great" moves in favor of the ifs and maybes of "cap flexibility" and first round picks

Lol that's f***ing hilarious. Your first incorrect statement is that Dundon is the problem. The Canes have made the playoffs every year he has owned the team and just to note they were on a 9 years playoff drought when he bought them.

Second dumb comment, the goaltending is crap. They won the Jennings 2 years ago and there are currently 4 teams who have given up less goals this season.

Yeah just imagine if they traded for one of the league’s top players. Surprised they haven’t done this in the current calendar year.
And they immediately got cold feet and backed out. Once again the "value" of what went out and what came back in is completely fine, if not good. It's the fact that at certain points in time this year they had Necas/Rantanen/Stankoven on the roster (as the main pieces) and they ended up with the worst of those three players

And you should learn puck. It’s not about getting the best player. It’s about getting the right player (and being able to do so when you need to).
