He achieved less with more resources. The only reason you think he's better is because it's been 10 years since he was in Pittsburgh and his worst traits have faded in everyone's memories.

How quickly we forget the Craig Adams and Tanner Glass experience, or Brian Gibbons on the first line, or Iginla on his off wing, or playing ancient Brendan Morrow 15 minutes per game, and so much more.

Mike Sullivan should be fired. But he's still better than Dan Bylsma.
Bylsma woulda made the playoffs the last 2 years and been more competitive this year, but ok. He's outcoaching him in Seattle right now.

I dislike Sullivan more than most on here, but this is ridiculous. Under Byslma, we had a perennial top 3-5 roster in the league. Of course we were never going missing the playoffs. We probably should've had another cup or 2 under DB.

Now we have a bottom 3-5 roster in the league. I accept it because I knew it was coming. This is how the process works. It doesn’t change how poor of a coach Dan Byslma was during his tenure here.
Except for that year he had Sid and Geno for half a season and still crushed it to make the playoffs.

Sullivan had Sid and Geno for a full 82 and still managed to f*** it all up, twice.

So Bylsma had a worse roster as you cited?

Sullivan has largely had a plethora of top nine wingers and a solid D core for the majority of his time here. And underachieved.

Bylsma typically has Kunitz or James Neal as his two best wingers and a bunch of grinders and put up 100+ every season.

Bylsma was a complete shit show shortly after we won the Cup. So he had to go and probably went much later than he should have.

But I will give him props for going back down to the AHL and getting back into it from the ground up. That is what you are supposed to do. He did not have to. Patrick Roy, same deal. He spent years in the QMJHL. I respect both men for doing that.

Mike Sullivan? If it were even possible to fire him, he would have a job two days later. He ain't reinventing himself, that's for bloody sure.

I think Bylsma's problem was that he was just kind of a doofus and wanted, sooooo f***ing badly, to be one of the dudes again.

Sullivan's been propped up on this pedestal and only ever given obscene positive reinforcement since the back to backs, so his ego just completely ratf***s any bit of sense or strategy might be in that Masshole noggin of his. He'll stubbornly torpedo things seemingly out of spite just to try and make his way work, because he'd rather be vindicated and proven correct than change and admit his approach to any given situation/decision was wrong. Deeply unlikable presence on the team--butchers the entertainment value with his style to boot.
