Dude played for like seven years with a wrist that needed surgery to repair. He's not gonna shut it down because he's dinged up, no matter how much it'd help this team in the long run. You don't get to Sid's level, a top 5 hockey player all time, by not being a fanatical competitor. /shrug

Sucks for tanking purposes, but it is what it is.

Another reason they should've dealt Rakell. Removing that much more talent from an already miserable as f*** roster makes it that much easier to fall in the standings.

Looking at the standings it seems unlikely that'd we climb to higher than 8th overall in the standings. Boston is 6 points up with a game in hand and everyone ahead of them also has a similar point total but quite a few games in hand on the Pens.

So even if the Pens do some stupid heater they'd probably finish no better than 8th overall unless some or all of those teams tanked hard.

Hopefully we can avoid that though.

Regressed since when? He doesn't have the quickness of young Karlsson and I'm not confident that 35 y.o. EK65 has a role on a cup winning team.
He still has speed like a man in his 20's. 35 y/o's are performing well more and more often these days in sports. Sports science is evolving. He only has to hang on for 2 more years. Seems pretty doable in his case. He still has good durability. Tracking to play 82 this year, which would make 3 straight years of that.

Anyways, that's not really important. Bottom line is GM's would take him at 5 mil, for sure. Just depends on whether he wants to flex his NMC.
Can't imagine he'd decline a contender, given he has no Cups and is near the end of his career.

Yeah 8th would be a pretty bad result during a tanking year.
Then again, we did pick Pouliot 8th OA so sometimes hidden gems like that are there for the taking.
