(24-31-10, 58 points, 8th place Metropolitan Division)

@

Minnesota Wild
(36-23-4, 76 points, 4th place Central Division)

When:
3:30 p.m. ET

How to Watch:
SN-PIT and TVAS for local markets, national on TNT, truTV and MAX

Pens’ Path Ahead:
The Penguins return to Pittsburgh after this one for a weeklong homestand at PPG Paints Arena. Next up is the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, followed by meetings with the St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Opponent Track:
The Wild, previously the third team in the Central, slipped down to a Wild Card spot after losing four of their last six games. Most recently, Minnesota dropped a 3-1 decision to the Canucks in Vancouver after former Penguin Teddy Blueger put the dagger into the empty net.

Season Series:
The Penguins led early, but allowed four unanswered Wild goals in a 5-3 loss at home on Oct. 29.

Hidden Stat:
The Penguins hold 30 total draft picks in the next three drafts, including an NHL-high 18 picks in the first three rounds, per Pens PR and team reporter Michelle Crechiolo.

The Wild’s lineup with all their injuries looks even worse than ours lol…but for the love of God we need to keep this losing streak going…3OA draft pick is in sight!

Pens will get a very good player/prospect in the draft. Center is a need here. Still have the lottery but as good as Shaffer is, Misa is the closest player to a top line center this year. Blackhawks have Bedard but they are still a good distance away from even a playoff team. Wild under Billy G are competitive but, just nothing that scares anyone.

Dailyfaceoff is showing Geno with Bemstrom and Hayes. Man, sometimes it smacks you right in the face just how bad this roster is.

Raks isn't getting traded this summer. Dubas made that pretty clear.
The same will apply to Rust and probably EK, because he's prioritizing guys who wanna be here for this re-tool.

In other words, 3 lost 1sts (and more) for no reason.
I think Dubas left the door open re: Rakell? I don't see any world where Rust returns a first. Same with EK, barring MASSIVE salary retention and more. So the notion that Dubas is foregoing 3 1st picks is dubious, at best, IMHO.

On the EK front I was talking about 50% retention. With planning, EK at 5 mil would have 100% got a 1st in this crazy sellers market.
Rust would definitely get a 1st in the summer. 103 points over his last 116 games in the last 2 seasons. 49 goals.
His AAV looks juicier with cap on the rise and the term would look enticing at this point for desperate teams looking for scoring.

I don't see any open door for trading Rakell. Dubas quite clearly talked about him being part of the re-tool, stated his desire to be here, and how he wants those guys.
Passing on the big offers at this deadline just to sell for less in the summer makes no sense.
