Yeah that's why we need new people chipping in more, to alleviate that tension. It keeps discussions more focused, because it won't just be people who've spent too much time together here going at each other over old nonsense. The new people tend to get much more respect, because they haven't burned any bridges and people are more receptive to them.

Would say adding like 20 regulars here or something would do wonders for this place.

I totally understand if you don't want the stress though.
Yeah, totally get what you’re saying. This board’s a love/hate relationship sometimes, haha. But thanks for being welcoming, this board needs more people like you.

The one that sticks out to me tonight is McGinn- watching him, he seemed to have a positive impact and was very noticeable on the forecheck and transition. He just did all the little things right tonight. So I’m surprised at his net negative on the chart.

McGinn doesn’t possess the puck a lot. I think that’s something that gets obstructed by some of these charts. Some players don’t possess the puck to impact the game.

I absolute love McGinn though, so I’m biased as hell. He’s exactly what this bottom six has been missing and reminds me a ton of Eric Fehr.

Fehr's a good comparison (size aside). The kind of guys who can turn a game around with their shot, even if they aren't possession monsters.

I think it's ok to have a few of those in the lineup. You don't want too many though.

So....was Archie hurt in the last game?
Yeah, he's been a bit beat up the last few games. Guess it came to a head.

Poehling dealing with something, too. Sullivan said upper body after the game.

Between Archibald and Poehling being banged up and Heinen looking like crap, DOC better get an opportunity against Carolina.

I say it mostly in jest. He's more a meme than anything at this point.

Stop by more often man. We need fresh voices here.
I'm with you in spirit brother, but do want to push back gently in defense of memes. Memes are usually transmitted to new hosts much like a virus, and can potentially evolve and occasionally benefit the greater good. The poseur/angry boomer amalgams, not so much. I think I've run out of metaphors at this point, please carry on.

Letang's patience/toe drag/pass to setup the rush that lead to Crosby's goal was pretty sick.
That whole sequence was incredible. Casual Tanger dangle, smart pass by POJ, quick pass by Rakell into the rush (how many times has he done that already to a streaking Crosby/Guentzel? Just amazing). Perfect finish by Guentzel to Crosby.

Malkin and Rakell are playing insane hockey right now.

Loved the bear-hug by Kap after the Rust goal. That's the same kind of hockey we need to play in the postseason and tbh that's what has been missing for all these playoff exits. Mean Geno is amazing, and so is an actually productive Rust. But it's all for nothing without discipline.

+f*** the Rags

+++enjoyed reading their whinny post-game thread
100%.

Idiots were slightly more likable when defending Trouba's chicken wing bullshit assaults in April. I may drop in there more often during losses so I can further appreciate how the world is aligned against the poor Rags. They're like entitled versions of the worst of the Isles crowd, with slightly lower BMIs and maybe less drooling.

I really wish they would give POJ a chance to play more. You don’t have put him out there 20 minutes a game but he’s consistently our lowest ice time among D.

I feel he’s shown he deserves an opportunity at an expanded role.

Feels nice to beat the Rags the way the beat us too often - with PP and lots of luck. I wonder if there is a stat for sad, weak clearing attempts because we seem to have had at least 56 of those (and a dozen in the final five minutes, at least). Playing the fourth line so little probably contributed to that. I know Heinen is bad right now but with our aging team a short bench is very risky idea.
Malkin actually scored from the left side on the PP, it's been a while. Rakell again making stuff happen without showing up on the score board. L1 is bound to have a big game offensively because it's still creating lots of chances but this hot PP and a miraculous Jarry is helping us grind wins anyway.

Per Natural Stattrick, High Danger Chances were 11 to 10 in our favour, and 5 on 5 we even lead by a bigger margin of 9 to 6. Sure didn't feel that way but maybe because they were long periods in which we could barely leave our zone despite technically not allowing many high danger chances.

We were lying in the weeds first half of the game, and then sprung out of the grass on the PP in the second half like a jaguar…and then we celebrated our guile by giving up a goal and then turtled the rest of the game just hoping to hang on in embarrassing fashionand we did thanks to Jarry’s glove, but it was not an inspiring end — Andy’s summary of the game lol
ha! Rangers get almost all of their wins they way you just described.

Big win for Pens.

I can't blame Dumo on some of these goals against. Rutta is not covering properly lately. I'd say like 4 goals against in the past 5 games or so he has a big hand in the blame.
He's had a good season but he's in a rut.
Rutta and Dumo is a terrible pairing. Feels like Carter and that pairing are always the ones on the ice when they get hemmed in their own zone.

I didn't get to watch the game, but I see the 4th line had under 6 minutes together and had a RB% of 7.9 which is atrocious. Were they really that bad?

And I see both posts stating that POJ is bad in the d-zone and that people want him to get more minutes. If you increase his minutes he'll most certainly be burned more often for goals/xgoals against. Sully's actually doing a pretty good job with him.

Last season he didn't look good because his confidence was mostly shot. Plus he was still adjusting to the NHL speed. Same with the start of this season. Just ease him in.

Ew, more posters like @AuroraBorealis ??!?

Really big win and you could tell it meant a lot to the team as well. Loved Rust yelling at Lindgren after the chickenshit move of hitting someone after they score.

The first 30 minutes were not good but ZMR’s shift changed the game. It almost seemed like Sid’s line was too cautious around Trouba at first. They were fumbling a lot of pucks and seemed hesitant to break into the zone with speed - once they remembered that he sucks at defense when he’s not elbowing you in the head they played a lot better.

The fact that Mike Sullivan still thinks Dumoulin is the guy to be on the ice in the last minute with a 1-goal lead is probably the most disturbing thing to come out of tonight. Dumo has been a tremendous player but dude is in late-stage Scuderi mode.

Normally, I’d feel bad when a call like that it is missed. Buuuuut… it was against Gallant and the Rangers, so lol
