They have gone all in on the draft. The only way they could go any more all in is trading Sid and Geno and neither wants out so it is what it is

They elected to re-sign Sid instead, blocking 15.4M of space. He would have accepted a trade if asked.
They signed Ned to 2.5 x 2. Grzelcyk to 2.75M. They kept Bunting in the summer. Kept Petts at his peak value after last year, and got lucky that senile Jim saved them after he regressed this year.

If they keep Rakell through this deadline and keep Rust through the summer because "he wants to be a Penguins lifer", then they're not fully committed. Karlsson needs to go at 50% too. He'll accept a trade to a contender, since he's Cupless and old.

I mean the thing is they're 6th worst by point percentage with the roster they currently have and if rumors are to be believed they're open to moving anybody except for Crosby, Malkin, and Rust. Which is fine imo. There's no need to ask Sid or Malkin to be traded. That should 100% be their call.

Rust should be traded but whatever.

I fully expect them to move on from Rakell and EK soon unless they get nothing but lowball offers for them.

A 5th-6th overall pick plus a good chance statistically to get a #1 or 2 overall seems perfectly fine to me. Sure they could be even worse if they totally blew it up, but they're being bad enough right now that they should be able to build a new core with the draft picks they'll be getting.

I'd be more concerned if they were finishing outside the top 10 but it seems highly unlikely that happens either this year or moving forward.

Definitely. Unless we somehow bring in Marner, rantanen and a #1/2 D, we’re only getting worse moving forward. Despite what he says in the media Dubas is slowly dismantling the team. We haven’t made a move in 2 years that says we’re doing anything but selling and picking up draft picks and prospects for the next few years.
