Post-Game Talk: Pens vs Oilers: Ned shuts the Door

We won? In regulation? Against the Oilers?

What disturbs me is hearing that Dubas's plan changes daily with this team floating above .500. Why would you change your plans???
The plans would change if the players force them to. For instance, last season he traded for Karlsson thinking it would help the team compete. It did not, and he traded Guentzel at the deadline. Now, he's thinking the team won't compete, but they're doing better (or the rest of the Conference is doing worse) than he'd thought. If the players that he thought would miss the playoffs are going to play themselves into a playoff spot, of course the plans would change.

If I’m Dubas, I’m trying to do a combo of Pettersson and mid picks and prospects for JT Miller to give this team a little bit of window over the next two years.

Another team will offer a lot more than we will. Also, we're selling off. This isn't 2016 despite tonight's fantastic game.

Didn't realize Petts was a +3
Rust has got to be near a PPG since the Jake trade. Edit: 52 pts in 56 games
Similarly, this is surely one of the hottest stretches of Raks as well.
DOC finally coming out of his slumber

I really enjoyed when Rust got next to McDived. Can't post what I'm sure Rusty said.

First period was bonkers, won every battle. Where has that attitude been?
It was a great period. In the top 3 this season for sure. I was saying earlier on in the GDT that this team has something different about it than the last few years.

Fun game to watch. Didn't like the McDavid dive but that was definitely interference on Rust lol. Thing is - Edmonton does that every single shift multiple times. It's not 'only' speed that creates space for them. I think the guys were just sick of it so of course Rusty gets called on it. Great game by line 1 and Ned overall. I also thought, minus one big gaffe that Letang was great. POJ and Petts looked like solid second pairing guys. Petts adopting the extreme high extreme low mantra.

If you GM'd just one game of the season - this team would be an Ian Cole type and skilled offensive forward on L2 (with a healthy Geno) away from playoff contention. I know we can't string together games and the team has many holes - goaltending included...but yeah... a few shifts of flat footedness and sans physicality made me miss what Cole brought, and he wasn't even overly physical. Just did enough. [For the record I'd take practically anyone from that era but just making a small point]

The reason we don’t have another Cole is because of Sully. He doesn’t want guys like that

Just to add..Pickering will be much better than Cole ever was if Sullivan lets him play his game. Watch that kid in November in and around the crease and compare it to now. It’s like you’re watching 2 different players.

Also: We’re a better team without Ryan Graves

They’re like the Jets. Awesome in the winter but when the snow begins to melt, they forget about hockey.
Historically I agree, but this Jackets team feels a bit different. But they'll have to buck a long standing trend to do so as you said. I think they will ascend.

In your world, I’m sure that would be great. I’m slowly shuffling over to the side of them making a go at the playoffs.

And I’ll be totally honest about that. I want to see them make it because I want to see 87 score 1 more point to pass Jagr and move into 5th all time in playoff points, trailing only the guys from the 80s Oilers teams.

Edmonton had won 7 in a row against the Pens and not only that but had outscored the Pens 14 to 1 over their past three meetings.
You missed a great game, seriously.

My world? I'm not a Jackets fan, just seeing a good young fast team that's hungry, has skill and plays with more structure than in recent memory.
