GDT: Pens vs Jackets 1900hrs EST: There’s still a chance!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

This is getting very frustrating to watch. Obviously, whatever the "plan" was down the stretch, I don't think it is working. They are doing exactly what they did last season and winning games in desperate straits, but they are clearly behind the eight-ball with the lack of games left so they are going to miss the playoffs yet again. Meanwhile, the lineup is being experimented with and tweaked, but the players we are trying out are journeymen, bottom-six forwards and/or depth defensemen. The goaltenders are the veterans. The players we are bringing up are all non-prospects, and all this is doing is cementing Sullivan's place behind the bench (if that was even in question).

I don't know what Dubas is planning to do this summer, but it will almost surely involve several Sullivan favorites/types because until we see an actual shift towards more skill, more youth and less of what Sullivan wants/prefers, then how can we be optimistic moving forward?

Pens aren’t finishing bottom 5. And it really doesn’t matter if it’s 7th or 9th. Go get Sid his points and ruin more teams playoff chances!

I don't really care if this team ruins other teams' playoff chances. They're ruining their own chance at landing one of the top 4 or 5 picks, and a guy who, on paper, is their best prospect in 20 years. /shrug

They could pretty easily be bottom 4 without this dumb little heater.

But again, who cares about a Martone, Hagens, Frondell, etc. when you can win these worthless games in mid March?

Johe again insists that "this team plays so hard almost every night". I am starting to think he might just have the memory of a goldfish.

"Even though this isn’t a good Penguins team, how many times have they simply not shown for a game" - too many to count, bro?

F Ohio and ALL their sports teams. Especially OSU.

Oh look, someone with an Ohio license plate is driving 60mph in the left lane.
Don't you know we're now in Europe? Right lane is the fast lane. At least that's what the morons out on the roadways think.

Actually, after top eight there is a precipitous drop in this years draft. So yeah, it does matter. Winning now does nothing to help this team. Unless of course you wanna be in a perpetual state of mediocrity that is! And your precious Crosby never seeing the playoffs again. If that's what you want you'll be very happy with what's taken place the last couple of weeks.

There is always a team who goes off board somewhere between 5-10. And in this draft there is no consensus after the top 3 and a lot of injury uncertainty.

It's gonna be awesome to run back like the exact same roster next year because "This group went on a run and we have faith that they give us the best the chance to win."

Fair enough, but it's better to put yourself in a more advantageous position if possible. There might be variances but the higher up the totem pole the better.

Noticed it's been pretty quiet on the Heinen front here. That usually means he's doing well.
So I checked the stats.

He's 4th on the team in 5v5 P/P60 since coming over. That's the same rank he had over his 2 years in Pitt.
I'm not surprised.

It was definitely an interesting decision to let him go, just to play the Harkins types.
I think for penguins fans it's not a shock for Sullivan to bench someone for ONE mistake of the ice.

Like DK said on his website during the penguins little winning streak "You just have to scout better."
What if you scout a couple can't miss prospects that are already taken? DK is full of it! Your options are far more limited the later you pick. That doesn't preclude you from getting a good player, but if you wanna get a player that helps significantly for the future that job is made much harder.

I guess many here don't understand how this works. We're not gonna get a Mario or Geno this draft. But we could get a very nice piece if we stopped winning meaningless games that help no one.

lol …Panthers are playing Vanecek against the Caps and going to play Bob against us tomorrow, the way worse team …Beau has a goal for the Caps

Like someone said in the comments on his site. If Craig Patrick didn't tank there would be no Fleury, Malkin and Staal.

Also, we (myself included) have to stop calling these wins meaningless. They're genuinely detrimental.
I think it's okay if they can maintain 7th. If they keep winning and get up to like 9th or 10th or god forbid even higher then yeah that'd be pretty devastating.

7th overall isn't terrible though. Anaheim has two games in hand (same points as the Pens) and Boston has one point on the Pens and one game in hand.

Hopefully this is as high as the Pens climb.

especially if it means for us f***ing over the club in the long term because it's important that sid pads his resume because that was the happiest point of yinz lives when he was young and spry.

This f-ing over the team bit is kinda nonsense tbh.

There's no generational players in this draft so at the end of the day who the f cares if we pick 8th instead of 6th or whatever. It's not gonna make much of a difference long term for the team.

Now if Sid screws us out of McKenna or Dupont then F U SID (j/k). But yeah ultimately I don't think how the Pens finish this year matters a whole lot.

Disagree, picking 6-7 OA as opposed to say 10-11 OA considering the make up of this draft class could be significant.

I don't think either Sid putting up goals in the end of the year or us picking 7th matter at all. This whole year is a complete blank in terms of actually meaning anything.

Only four home games out of the eleven left this season. They have games @ Florida, Tampa, Buffalo, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago and the Devils. The only home games are Ottawa, Chicago, Boston and to finish the season against Washington. They have three straight road game; come home against Ottawa, and back on the road for three road games again.
