Remember that time you SWORE to me that Plotnikov would put up 60 goals with G? :sarcasm:
In his defense, his 3 most common line mates were Cullen, Fehr, and Kevin Porter. He only played 38 minutes with Malkin while playing 260 minutes away from him. This was also during the time of Johnston

I was thinking about this a few days ago...

JJ-Marino was a solid pair, JJ was actually a functional human being with Marino. Which left the idea that if you drop Pettersson down to the 3rd pair with someone like Riikola (Schultz is a dumpster fire, no partner can fix him, he's worse than JJ right now), I would probably roll that.

JJ-Schultz is comically bad, like you are a f***ing dipshit of a coach if you think that is a 3rd pair that won't burn you at literally every second they hit the ice as a duo.

POJ-Ruh. ;)

I love #30 to death and think very highly of him but in a tournament with 5 months off... I didn't love how #30 looked at "camp". He wasn't controlling rebounds and he looked unsure. But it was like 2.5 scrimmages i saw. This is the dude who went back to back SOs in the Stanley Cup Finale with a massively injured team tied 2-2 against Nashville.

I think madden actually has the right take on this. You gotta start murray but the leash is pretty short.

I hope sullivan wins this Tournament and sticks it to his tired haters.

Then becomes head coach of Team USA.

He isn’t really the same player over the last three years for whatever reason...his confidence seems a lot less and he loses position or is slow to react sometimes...I hope the team plays tight defense and lets him gain some confidence

I kind of want Murray to turn in a CS winning run for the chaos, tbh. The cup would be nice, but the chaos would be great.
The blind faith in Sully reminds me of the same blind faith a bunch of wankbuckets had for Bylsma and now act like they were never those people at all and I know who all of them are, the same lot that are also the huge Sully fluffers.

There's nothing wrong with being a fan of a coach and being critical. People have an incapability of understanding that.

Murray though? I will admit, not a fan of his as a person he irks me, something about him just seems very off to me. He gets such a long rope because of the back 2 back cups, Fleury did too until people finally turned on him. Murray seems to get even more rope.

The only thing this is a testament to is how much better Marino is than Schultz, and frankly the idea of balancing pairs like this reminds me of listening to Dejan talk about Zucker on the 3rd line for 'balance'.

The simpler solution is to ride Dumo-Letang and Pets-Marino and to play Johnson-Schultz not more than is absolutely required.

If we have the last change, I am ok with the ability to match up, but when the Pens don't, teams are going to feast on that 3rd pair, unless the group in front of them is the Blueger line, oh it's gonna be entertaining alright.

I suspect Sully is going to be VERY aggressive in managing their minutes and usage in those games in which the Pens don't have last change (offensive zone draws, less dangerous matchups, etc). Won't totally inoculate, but I don't think they're going to be as exposed as some here may fear.

(yes, I know . . . strange for ME to be saying that . . . maybe it's the denial speaking :D )

My hope is that Schultz snaps out of his funk and realizes he's really not going to get 5m/yr again and the reality of the situation is that he's auditioning for a lesser salary and at this point, needs to show he's good enough for term.

Some would file that one where they file my hope that Sully limits Jack Johnson's exposure at even strength . . .

I'd rather see Jarry win the CS. Then when Jarry is enjoying his win, someone will walk by him at a cafe and tell him he's not Murray.
It’s almost like you’re saying the Pittsburgh sports “media” and beat “reporters” are a bunch of scummy hacks, who have no f***ing idea what they are talking about!? Weird :)

It's such a shitty situation.

A. If JJ plays terrible, he's here for the rest of his contract unless the Pens attach a significant sweetener.
B. If JJ plays well enough, they might keep him thinking he's making them look good for the gamble and risk.

I'm gonna go against most here and suggest that Sid and Geno shouldn't play tomorrow. They should be fine saturday night. And even if it takes them a period or two to find their respective games, it doesn't matter. We're playing the 24th seed! I mean come on people. lmao

We're about to have potentially 5 grueling rounds. Shielding them for this one game is pointless. Either they're fit to handle this or they're not.

I don't know why everyone thinks the Habs are gonna roll over so easily. They've won 3 of the last 6 against us, including trashing us 4-1 in December at home. During that stretch, we went 7-1-0. They were the only team to take us out.

Yes, we're favorites in this series. But let's not pretend the NHL isn't random af.

I expect some of these games to feature outrageous scores. At least early on. Am I the only one?

Hockey is going to be VERY, VERY sloppy IMO. You simply can't go from having months off, no real game action and then jump into playoff hockey without more turnovers, dumb decisions (mainly defensively).

It has the air of a joke, to me, too. All-star "whatever" games.

We'll see if the players really get up to play, shoot hard, and hit. Or if it's just a street hockey pick up game.
