1000% the Canadiens are going to trap like they are clones of the 90’s devils... we better be ready for that

I’ve always thought we’d do much better the last few years in the POs if we played with the same structure but we never do...I’m resigned to our goalie having to be in God mode...unfortunately they haven’t been

Agreed. Hopefully an exhibition game such as this will give them a lot more to work with in practice to fix issues than in-team play.

The thing is they're not hitting. I don't want to read too much into an exhibition game without seeing, as I suspect, that there's another notch or two for all three, especially Malkin, to turn it up.

Going pretty much as expected.
In the scrimmages, their breakouts were atrocious for the most part.
In this 1st, they did what they practiced, held on to pucks for breakouts. PHI sets the trap, puck gets gobbled up in the NZ and PHI goes the other way.

I'll never understand why they don't focus in on the weakest part of their game which is breakouts. It's been terribad for awhile now.

Have the Pens learned to dump and cycle yet against the trap? Doesn’t look like it...Philly owned the NZ and the Pens had no time in the O zone..if they don’t get a L1 score off the rush, it looks like they won’t score

This certainly is a fair point. We're skating into the teeth of their trap absent sufficient support, like they're funneling us right into it pretty much every shift and it takes more often than not a broken play to beat it.

Looks like the top 6 is outright refusing to dump and chase and would much rather make fancy little lateral chip plays at the Flyers blue line. It’s what killed us against the Isles and will likely be our demise this year too.

100% accurate.

Tough to know if they're outright refusing like last year or it's more about this being an exhibition (for example, in terms of the hitting, this one is like a pick up game, so it's clear some guys-- maybe most guys-- haven't turned it up).

The weird part is basically all four of our top six wingers thrive on dump and chase lol

unfortunately I think people on here have overrated the team and their chances...I don’t see them winning a Cup this year so I’d rather they lose to MTL and at least get a chance at Lafreniere than lose to Philly or Boston etc in the next round...

Already starting off giving Philly lots of time in our zone...
