I dont bet against Sid on dragging this team to the playoffs. Especially if Jarry keeps this up. High odds? No, but its not impossible. We’ve seen crazier things happen

It'd be one thing if this team had a stock of long term prospects in place and winning meant building upon a culture and all that shit, but this team's on the cusp of half a decade-plus of unavoidable misery and there's like no young guys playing to benefit from the "Hey guys, winning's important, don't forget that" invaluable lessons. Most of the comments were even worse agreeing with him. At least one said that without tanking there would be no Malkin, Fleury or Staal. This isn't the 1998-1999 season when the penguins upset the #1 seeded Devils in the playoffs, and the ownership for the penguins was up in the air.

The penguins have only 13 games left in the regular season, but I'm sure the Fenway Sucks Group would do cartwheels if the penguins would make the playoffs. It would be funny if the Rangers would miss out, but the penguins get in.It'd be one thing if this team had a stock of long term prospects in place and winning meant building upon a culture and all that shit, but this team's on the cusp of half a decade-plus of unavoidable misery and there's like no young guys playing to benefit from the "Hey guys, winning's important, don't forget that" invaluable lessons.![]()
I would be very happy to see a Pens/Caps round one match up. That team doesnt scare me. Even if it was a blowout loss to them, it would be fun to see Sid go post season nuts on the Caps again. The penguins have only 13 games left in the regular season, but I'm sure the Fenway Sucks Group would do cartwheels if the penguins would make the playoffs. Yeah, it kinda is. They'd likely have to win out. IF that happens (which it won't) they would tie the '93 Penguins for the longest winning streak in NHL history. You seriously think THIS team can do that?I dont bet against Sid on dragging this team to the playoffs. Especially if Jarry keeps this up. High odds? No, but its not impossible.
They dont have win out. Only the Habs have been decent the last 10 games out of all the teams ahead of them. Wings are 3-7-0 and the Bruins are 3-6-1 for example. Is it likely they make it in? No. But its more likely they make it in than dropping to a top 5 pick at this point.Yeah, it kinda is. They'd likely have to win out. They'd have to go 11-2 or something like that and that wouldn't guarantee a playoff birth. This is not a good team. They're gonna have to have over an .800 winning % the rest of the year when they aren't even .500? It's not sustainable. But I agree we will not get a top five pick, heck maybe not even top 10. The Pens max is 92 points. (.561)
If 3 of these teams pass that mark, the Pens are done, even if they win out. Two are above it right now, and the Habs and Rangers have been strong in their last 10. They may raise the bar.
Hell, the Pens would lose a 92-point tie-breaker with their low RW count.
So let's use your scenario where they don't have to win out. Let's say they win 11 of 13, and finish with 88 points.
That's .537. Four of these teams are at or above that line right now. And again, the Pens would lose the tie-breaker still.
It is very unlikely that they'd get in with that. They'd need a perfect storm of results.
It's more likely that they need 90+ points. 12 of 13 wins minimum.
