I’m not really sure Smith is the solution on the Powerplay but considering he did it in Jersey there is no reason he can’t do it here.

Expecting a 22 year old to carry your Powerplay with how bad it looks especially when your stars are directly looking him off.. well..

It’s absurd to continue playing him with the first considering how few times they have connected since he came up.
It’s not really his fault but he cannot bring up the puck (our innovative “Smith drops it off” approach that I see zero good PP’s utilize with any regularity), and he is not quick or shifty enough to not be put under pressure very easily. More so on our team because playing the safe dump or hard-around won’t work, as we won’t win those battles. Everyone knows that so teams will push out and pressure Smith and Malkin as hard as they can. If we win the draw cleanly we might get set up. Otherwise hardly ever.

Again, not Smith’s fault. I think he will be a useful 5 on 5 player and support offense well when paired with quality.

I’m beginning to think this Rust on L1 business is a low-key tankjob to try and snag a top 5 pick in June. That’s the only thing that makes any sense.
