Not overstating Eller's ability/importance or anything, but isn't this kind of a tacit admission from the FO that they acknowledge this year is already over (assuming he didn't really ask out that is)???

Unless, of course, you believe that this mgmt team is willing to run someone unproven at 3C.

They have apparently been trying to move him since the deadline last year and were going to jump at the oppotunity to move him as soon as someone offered a 3rd for him.

My guess is that they wanted a 3rd this year and Washington said "if you take a future 3rd we'll give you a 5th this year" and Dubas said yes.

I know everyone has their preference on what player/team Kyle is gonna rob of their 3rd round pick half a decade from now but me personally... kinda hoping to trade one of these goaltenders so they aren't carrying three of them which is an extra layer of moron on the shit cake.

I think you have to wonder if they're trying to showcase Nedjelkovic with how they've been using him recently.

I think they could probably get another 3rd for him, but having 2 years left at that AAV makes it a bit tougher.

there may be a big gap on who they want to keep and who other teams want.

People keep assuming this, but based on Dubas' track record in his trades it's more likely all we get for Pettersson is a 2nd round pick in 2030 and a 7th round pick this year.
He should, that's the value around the league for that type of defenseman. Now will he pick that route, or go the quantity route like he did with Guentzel is a totally different story

He'll get VAN's like... 6th best prospect, a 3rd in 2040 and insist that roster player Danton Heinen is included to "make up" for the lack of quality futures.

I'm fully expecting the Pettersson trade to be something like Pettersson to Vancouver for Elias Pettersson (defenseman) and a 2026 2nd, with Dubas noting that Elias is a near NHL ready contributor that will slide into Pettersson's old role.

It's a deal that isn't necessarily "bad" but is so underwhelming that it just aligns with the rest of his moves. Just thorough meh.

Soucy seems like the Bunting on Vancouver.

Honestly I could totally see this as well.

Soucy, prospect Pettersson and a 2026 2nd for Pettersson with $1 million retained. Dubas wastes a retention slot on Pettersson to make the cap work for Vancouver. Soucy and Pettersson replace Pettersson and Grzelcyk (who probably gets moved for like a 4th or 5th).

I'm just impressed at Dubas' brinkmanship... waiting it out for months until a team finally cracks and meets his asking price... of a third rounder 3 years from now. This guy clearly has no fear staring down the barrel of the gun to make the big deals.
In my fanfiction this was clearly the biggest decision making since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

lol this site’s backend is worse than my 78 year old mother’s and she has piles.

OK deal, but only if Elias agrees to wear 28 so they can reuse Marcus' jerseys and save the multi-billion dollar conglomerate a couple hundred bucks. We've gotta save every dime so they can afford to fire Sullivan.
