One other thing to think about. If/when all of Glass, Hayes, and Nieto come back you have way too many forwards. Of the older UFA’s Eller is probably the only one of value because I am not including O’Conner.

And if more injuries then maybe guys like gruden, broz, poulin will get a shot..

And as stated this could be leading to another trade where we take on more salary in a trade

I mean don't get me wrong... Eller is getting overrated. By the team itself, at that. Look how he's been used the last couple of years.

But they pulled this trigger too soon IMO. And besides I don't see much reason to be anything other than utterly ambivalent about a 3rd round pick in 2027. Especially when you consider they are just going to almost certainly backfill this loss with more garbage.

Then again I suppose that's the point, now. Boy... one can see why you need an expensive GM to pull off THESE kinds of moves.
Way I look at it is if Dubas builds a strong foundation and the ascension arc is strong, I'm not gonna care at all what happened in the final Crosby years.
That's his main job here.
It'd be nice to stop wasting time and get to it though. This is a decent first step.

I agree he should have targeted later picks. Said that about our drafting before he was even hired.
He's course correcting, based on having more evidence now of where they're at for the foreseeable future. He's done a lot of that since coming here.
When he first arrived he was talking about winning the division. Now he's shaken off any remaining delusions.
It's fine getting immediate picks if you end up flipping them later again. But that's sort of a dice roll approach, where you can come out better or worse for it.
That's why I prefer the higher percentage route.
You can't keep kicking the can down the road, though. This isn't going to be some gradual and graceful easing into the pool type of rebuild. We're cannonballing right into the bottom. We're already just about there now before actually selling things off. There is no need to mind **** it, just stock up on picks in the next 2 drafts and see what you can get.

Did Henrique not go for a 1st at the TDL last year? This is a guy you trade for a 2nd at least. Not that Im surprised on the return from the guy who couldnt even get a 1st for the second best LW in this frachise's history
Henrique is significantly better than Lars Eller, and I say that while acknowledging Eller has been really solid for the Pens. Much better than I anticipated.

Henrique is a year younger, more versatile, and scored 24 goals and 51 points last year. Eller had 15 goals and 31 points. Eller is exclusively a center at this stage of his career, while Henrique has value at center and at wing.

So far this looks more like a foundation built on sand but I guess we'll see. I have no idea why they needed to go out and pay a guy like 40 million dollars just to suck. Kyle Dubas has shown me zero evidence that he is particularly cunning or savvy in any way nor has he shown me an ability to handle his personnel considering they are literally selling off the team before the coach's seat even gets lukewarm. But that's probably a slightly different discussion.

Regardless hard to care overmuch TBH. Maybe Eller even ASKED to GTFO. I know I would have.

Pens HFB - "Tear it down! Time to rebuild!

Dubas trades Eller for futures

Pens HFB - "NO! NOT LIKE THAT!"

Not sure who is saying this that is complaining about the trade.

Most of us are annoyed that Dubas sucks at his job. But I guess like Sullivan you are going to take 4 years to come around on that one.

I don't want them to tear it down while Crosby and Malkin are still any good. Never did.

Maybe I don't want them bleeding every single future every single season. But I don't want them ripping the team down to the studs right after those two decided to stay. Seems like a pretty shitty thing to do, honestly.

Lines right up with Sullivan's retirement as a coach into ownership of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Funnier knowing that and the coach is still not fired.
Malkin, Acciari to Florida for
2025 6th round pick
2030 3rd round pick
2077 2nd round pick.
* Pittsburgh picks up 50% of Malkin and Acciari remanding salary. :wally:

I was told we’d get a first for Eller and Acciari / Nieto!
:scared:

Bad deal for Pittsburgh unless they desperately need cap for another trade.
or a waiver wire pickup?

The scary thing is that Dubas is probably going to use the cap space to do something else…
He's bailing out some fortunate GM. I wonder what former player of his got overpaid and now needs cast off to Dubas island?

Welcome to the Pens, Pierre Engvall. Can't wait to hear how shrewd of a move it actually was on here for 4 weeks before reality sets in again ala Bunting.

Its gonna be fun to compile a list of the batshit stuff people complain about over the next few years.

"Omg he got the 44th overall instead of 28, Dubas is the devil"
"Omg the 3rd is in 2 years instead of next year, Dubas is the devil"

It's already funny compiling a list of stuff you guys have all been wrong about. I just don't brag about it because it's sad.

It’s going to be fun when this team is going through a second rebuild in 2031 after Dubas leaves our franchise in the same type of hole Chayka in Arizona did because people thought he was young and progressive.
