Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

Because they look at what we've got and what we can get for them instead and reflect this is the best shot and we need to be patient and wait for the luck to go out way. Like Tampa with Jon Cooper to use an example you used.

I am not convinced Geno's presence on this team as it's been last couple of years is irreplaceable. But it's indisputable nobody else will give us such a high ceiling. There's virtually nothing the team can do with its assets to change that.

I would also add that this team has turned over its whole front office, assistant coaches, bottom six, bottom two pairings, most of the top six wings, and starting goaltender over this. The core with Jake, Dumo, and a promoted Rusty are the only guys on ice to see the whole thing. The org isn't just running it back and back, it doesn't need to change shit for the hell of it.

Fair and very good post.

And it is a bad one if we really want to contend. All options are bad ones compared to just re-signing Malkin.

Cap will be rising and if he can't cut it, we can Hossa him. I just do not get the unwillingness to go 4 years and the attempt at low balling a f***ing legend. People would REVOLT if they were doing that shit to Sid.
Maybe for this offseason, what about the next one? We're wrapping up players with 5-6 year contracts while everyone's sole focus is on the upcoming season.

It boggles the mind. The only way I like any of these deals are if the FO knows this team will fail and that they can move them for assets. Asset management, a new concept for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

There was tons of talk between Habs and Pitts at the draft.

According to Renaud Lavoie (Mtl insider) the Habs had a trade in place that had yet to be announced. Doesn't mean it's with Pitts but I found the news interesting.

If Malkin leaves, does Dvorak become an option?

What does it mean if you dream that you are baking bread with your 3rd grade teacher then?
If the bread was actually borscht and your 3rd grade teacher in your dream was Malkin then hell be signing with us by tomorrow.

Maybe. He wouldn't be a popular add here, and it sounds like the front office is very locked into Trocheck as a replacement, but he could make sense. Is he superfluous with Dach there/what's the likely price?

I think the desired outcome for a Habs-Pens trade here would be we give you Marcus Pettersson and that's kinda it.

We need to shed salary and Montreal has less space than us.

Did Lavoie (who has always been reliable) say the trade was between the Pens and Habs or that there was "a trade"? I would suggest the trades Montreal were making were indeed announced. They were busy.

If it's a pre-FA or even post-PA, Pettersson for Armia makes some sense depending on how FA goes.

Dvorak...as our 2C? Please no.

Lindblom would be a great Heinen type of project to add to the 3rd line.
