He seemed real shaky to me watching in person. Don’t forget Tampa rang one off the post in the second, and had another goal that got past Jarry called back.

I don't see any of those 3 (or 4) goals where a person could say: he should've had that one

How many breakaways did he stop? He held the fort when it was 1-0 and the Pens couldn't muster a shot the rest of the period. He held the fort when it was 2-0 as well

Again I don't think Jarry is ultimately a good goalie, but he did his job (and then some) last night

I always respect a difference of opinion. I was sitting near Vasilevsky (and far from Jars) for two of the three periods, so who knows, you may be right. Let’s agree to disagree.

At this point.

Power play one

Karlsson or Letang I don't care.
Eller + 2 names not named Crosby Guentzel Malkin maybe we rotate one in
Zahorna

Let's see some real coaching and accountability.

Everyone and their grandmother knew that was happening.

No one locally has any connections. Half of them didn't even know who the FSG heads were, complained they were absentee, only to find out that FSG has someone here practically all the time.

And none of them have connections to Dubas.

No one in Pittsburgh had the Reilly Smith trade. And no one had Karlsson. They speculated, sure. Worst kept secret. But Montreal getting involved or the actual parameters? All national.

Madden gets decent interviews. He knows the game. But his inside access is gone.

Think about it -- who is going to leak to Madden that they've begun tossing replacement names around? Not Dubas. Spezza has no idea who Madden is. Neither does Mpofu, Doug Wilson, or anyone else in the room. Think Amanda Kessel and Trevor Daley are leaking things to Madden? Anything they know and want to leak is going to Friedman or LeBrun, because they'll pump their tires down the road for promotions.

I'd buy Madden maybe knowing something player related, but that's it.
Early on Madden reported that Darche didn’t even want to be interviewed for the GM job. Then it came out that Darche would’ve had the job if the Leafs didn’t extend Dubas.

We all know Hornqvist is shitting himself with excitement that Sully will be in town for his big night.

How could you all be so cruel to call for his head before such a meaningful game?

That lineup is simply not playoff caliber. You've got four NHLers, a bunch of AHL and fringe guys, and the corpse of Carter out there.

That's not on you, the truth of the matter is this team isn't good enough. And while it is a coaching issue, it's also a talent issue.
You are spot on, but I will add that your HC is in large part responsible for that lineup. He bullied the franchise and scattered anyone with youth to the wind.

Hopefully he starts moving players and making sure it's top 10!! If we decide to move Jake, that could be a real fast retool/rebuild on the fly. Perhaps even Smith
I really do not think with what we have that would be a fast retool. Getting some assets sounds cool but a late 1st and let's say young potential top 6 player that may be as good as Guentzel will not make the rebuild speedy.

Last night wasn’t one his better games the last couple weeks for sure…goals2 and 3 were stoppable…he was deep in his net

I bet at this point sullyvan wants to be fired, he has zero answers and ideas how to turn this thing around...
He's a good talker, and just keeps spewing the same jargon over and over again.

A high pressure PK also will destroy any PP that insists on passing around the perimeter for 2 minutes instead of actually generating chances in the slot/front of the net.

Replacing Reirden is like replacing a flat tire, but not bothering to fix an engine that won't start.
We used to rely heavily on the Malkin shot. Then we had the bumper play. Now I all I see is the Sid chip play. We don't seem to have anything else.

I don't think he was bad at all. I think the goal that was called off was a bit weak (he was a little deep in the crease as you said). I don't remember the other goals being bad, but who knows....maybe I'm blocking a bad memory.

When I saw us stuck on 6 shots forever, I knew it was going to be a bad night.

I remember us getting into this mode a few years back, where we kept passing it to one trailer after another, only to turn a 2on1 into a 5on4 weak shot on net. Everybody is afraid to shoot. I can't remember what fixed it!

Dubas said. “That’s for me, as I continue to get to know and learn this group, the different things that I'm looking for that will be instructive to how we dictate the course of where we go in the second half of the year.”

What does Dubas mean by this? I mean...it's not like we can be sellers at this point (ie. with all the NMC contracts). Unless it's about selling who we can.

Crosby: "Any time we felt like we got a little momentum either we're in the box or they scored. We've still got to find a way. We were down 2-0 last time we were here and climbed back into it. We've got to find a way to get that next one and get back in the game." Boilerplate Golden Boy

Looks like Harkins and Kopp didn't see the ice in 2nd period? Or only 1 shift? That's a good thing but its past time to send them back and call up Pitlick and Puu.

If Rust is out for any period of time, then bog chance to mix things up.

Guentz - Sid - Hino
Smith - Malkin - Puu
Z - Eller - Nylander. (If Acciari comes back I would put him in instead of Z)
DOC - Pitlick - Carter (or Z if Acciari is back)

This is worth repeating. They could rely on the Malkin bomb (and they did a lot last year). Malkin and Sid no longer have those zips on their shots and they could usually squeeze one out before things got TOO dire. But Father Time comes for us all.

Hell Sid doesn't even go backhand anymore, shows you how little power he feels he has on his shot

Kinda like Sully himself, eh?

Yet his shot seems just fine at 5 on 5. Malkin too scored some goals until the opposition figured out that no one else on his line is an actual scoring threat, so he doesn't have many chances any more. Sure, they have been better in the past but their shots aren't bad enough to explain the dire results on the power play, especially in light of their performance at even strength. Even if Malkin were in his prime, he would find difficult to score when the one timer passes are rarely in his wheelhouse, there is nobody screening the goalie and everyone and his dog knows Malkin is going to shoot sooner or later.

Then that’s on the coach…

Maybe.

Except that we have seen this same thing, especially on the power play, literally for well over a decade.

In the end the main blame on thr star players who have made many of the same mistakes for years. Such as too often looking for the highlight reel pass or goal rather than working as a unit.

The thing is, it's orders of magnitude easier to replace a coaching staff that's not able to do its job than it is to replace several HHOF guys on a top power play or remove/replace several depth guys throughout the top-9.

I do think a lot of the issues are roster based, but I think a constant issue for years has been Sullivan (and the assistants suck too). Nuke the coaching staff asap, and if whoever comes in gets the same results--which is a definite possibility with half the forward corps being AHL caliber--then you can deal Jake at the deadline and go about dismantling things this summer without any hesitation. I mean, I'd already be doing that, but this organization loves to take way too long to do the thing and reviles any sort of proactive move like dealing Jake before he walks or demands a stupid as f*** contract.
