Hoglander scored over 20 goals like 5 minutes ago. Getting him and a 3rd for UFA Pettersson would be tidy business and I’m not a huge Hoglander fan

Yes…
The one year he scored that much he had like 20+ shooting %…it wasn’t sustainable as this year is showing already…

Half his icetime he was playing with Miller or Pettersson though. Hes definitely the right age to be targeting but I have less than 0 faith that Sullivan can turn his game around.

And his rookie season his shooting% was half that yet he had 13 goals in 57 games.

This year Miller has been garbage and Pettersson was garbage until Miller left the team for reasons

I meant from last season. His best season came from playing with Miller/Pettersson a ton. Admittedly hes been in Tocchet's dog house this year so hes not getting much ice time or opportunity

Guarantee he’ll be in Sullivan’s doghouse too within 10 games, just like Tomisino will likely be benched lol

I mean I like the idea of acquiring Hoglander in a Pettersson trade. They just need to be getting good value on top of that as well.

If it's Pettersson at 50% for Hoglander and a 1st, I'm very satisfied with that deal. Hell, even Hoglander, a B prospect (someone like Mynio or Pettersson) and a 2nd is still pretty solid too.

If we are taking on Hoglander's contract, we shouldn't have to retain on MP28.

I've come to the conclusion I wouldn't retain on MP at all. By the time the deadline rolls around, he'll be at what $2 million or less left? We can easily take back that value to offset his caphit if need be. Would rather use the retention on Rust or someone else.

From Hasse on why Pool party is being benched:

I just flat-out asked Mike Sullivan why Jesse Puljujarvi is getting scratched.

"A lot of it is just details," Sullivan told me. "Understanding the team concept, doing his job, whether it be forechecks or rush coverages or D zone coverage. There's a number of different things. But I think Jesse has a good understanding of what the expectations are and how he can help us have success, and how he can have success as as a player on our team. And he and I have had a number of conversations over the course of the season with respect to that. When he's at his best, I think he's a real good puck pursuit guy. He gets in on the forecheck really well, uses his size, uses his reach, leans on people. He's got a little bit of a scoring touch. But a lot of just attention to detail, more specifically away from the puck. And when he plays with that, I think he's an effective player."
With there no being no morning skate today, there's no way of knowing whether Puljujarvi sits again until warmups. But he was out of the line rushes on Thursday's practice after sitting on Wednesday.

I still don't see the point of Hoglander being a target for this team. I mean, he's not going to get top 6 minutes, so we have another 3 million per year bottom 6 winger who will be hampered by ineffective offensive centers. His defense is poor, so he won't be a PKer.

If the bottom 6 wasn't chock full of identical players non effective players maybe. But Hoglander will be no different to Beauvillier, Bunting, or at his very best Rakell.

Anyways... Whatever, I'd rather have picks and prospects for our outgoing players.

Why wouldn’t he get top six minutes? The LW depth on the team is horrible.

Spending premium assets on Jiricek doesn't make sense to me. If we send them McG I imagine we still have to add a lot.

This is our first actual tank season in decades so our 1st should be off limits, protected or not.

Why don't we actually start selling players. Can we squeeze Lekkerimaki out of Vancouver for Petts? Is there a Sullivan-free future where this guy makes sense on the Pens?
They should take this opportunity to move Rust after a big game of stat padding. Play Puljujarvi regularly in his stead like they should be and keep moving out more.

I guess at 23 he's not a bad add for a team that needs to get younger. I'd sell the canucks on taking Pettersson and Rust for Hoglander and another cap dump but with much less term like Forbort or Desharnais or one of those giant pylons for a good pick and D-Petey.

I don't mind Hogs, he's small as shit sure, but he's feisty and again, not 30+ so that's a bonus. Keep making the team younger so a dumb f*** like Sullivan has no choice but to play youth.

Yeah the LW depth is trash on the Pens so Hoglander would be a huge upgrade. Hoglander has kind of just fallen out when they added Sherwood, Heinen, and Debrusk. Sherwood is a right handed shot but he plays both wings and now Joshua is back, he's not really working with Elias much either and they are fine depth wise there to move him for defense help.

Hoglander is a shooter too so that mentality on this team should be fun until Sullivan adjusts his game and makes him force passes to Sid.

And funny enough, Hoglander was fantastic with Lafferty and Beauvillier last season, so you can go a 3rd line of Beauvillier, Glass/Lizotte, Hoglander too.

From Hasse on why Pool party is being benched:
f*** off, Sullivan. No one buys your bullshit at this point. All that garbage about "attention to detail" when Puljujarvi's one of the only guys on the team who does play a responsible game.

There's a reason your god damn team keeps blowing leads, you overrated piece of shit. Stop pretending that the majority of the roster pays "attention to detail" and the guys you scratch are the ones that don't.

f***ing obnoxious prick.

I don’t understand how the same people who say “this team needs to get younger” also say “I don’t see what Hoglander does for this team”. He is a young cost controlled 15-20 goal scorer that will likely be acquired at a heavily discounted value. It make significantly more sense to target someone like him than Bunting last year.

As long as Dubas isn’t being dumb, his value should only be around the equivalent of a 3rd or 4th. He’s basically in the same position as Tomisano was for Nashville, just with having a stronger season last year. I’d easily trade one of their spare 3rds for him now and worry about the MP trade later if the MP trade is going to be complicated to make the money work.

He's DOC but at $3million for 3 years, starting next year.

It would be a terribly boring/meh add. Unless it's increasing the value they get back in prospect or pick with him.

Why would he? Everything I've read on the kid says he is nothing more than a bottom 6 winger. Poor defensively, not good on either end of the special teams spectrum, isn't physical, gets complacent and tries to become a playmaker while ignoring other aspects of the game. Can potentially carry the offensive portion of a bottom 6 line as long as the other 2 linemates are able to cover for him when he starts to wander.
