I mean when people beat you over the head with how special a prospect is and get indignant at any opinion to the contrary it's no surprise that some people would lash out when he passe through waivers without getting claimed.

Personally, even though I think Puustinen kinda sucks I'd still rather play him than like Matt f-ing Nieto because at least Puustinen has a theoretical chance of improving and becoming something decent whereas Nieto will never be any better than he is now, and he already sucks.

Pixies I have nothing against you but you of all people should not be the one to make this point . We could make a volume of posts you made that were something to the effect of "Remember when everyone said I was wrong about [x] and then ended up being right?"

I’ll happily admit when I’m wrong.

I am right a lot though. Good point.

The only player that I'll be somewhat mad about being waived in the bottom 6 is Puljujarvi... This guy should be on PK1 with Lizotte or Glass.

Anyways, until the Goaltending and top 6 is sorted and playing like proper Goalies and top 6 players, the bottom 6 players do not matter in the least, and every one of them are interchangeable and dispensable until such time.

I think teams would give up a pick for Puljujarvi. He could go to a playoff team and be a contributor.

Agreed I really dislike seeing him scratched when he is clearly one of the better players on the ice.

Puus - he deserves to be waived or sitting in the press box. Maybe Neito does more Maybe he doesn't let's give a few games and watch him play. We know what Puus provides a nice shot with a slow release.

I think Puljujarvi would absolutely get claimed off waivers, but I'm unsure of how much value he'd realistically have at the deadline.

If the Penguins were smart, they'd either be pumping up his production by playing him with Malkin (like Beauvillier) or they'd be using him in a versatile bottom-6 role to make him appealing as bottom-6 help (like O'Connor). They could get a 3rd for him if they'd try to maximize his value, but as they're using him, I'd be surprised if it was higher than like a 4th or 5th.

I'd personally run with Puljujarvi-Malkin-Tomasino and plan on increasing Puljujarvi's value that way. If he ends up meshing well with Malkin, even better. You can just keep him then.

Well FSG now knows this isn't working. I do think they told Hextall to sign these guys and have a 3 year plan in place. Dubas added some issues but he can move many of these players like Rust and Karlsson this off season. Petts at the TDL and hard to see Jarry being unloaded. Graves just is a massive disappointment. some of that is Sullivan. Sullivan needs to go now but my guess is he will be let go after this year. He may finally add value here with a tank for a top 5 or 6 pick. Rebuild is not a word the Pens like but it has to be priority number one.

It's easier for Meathead Mike to spell Nieto when filling out the official lineup card for the league.
"Hey Looch, how many Js in Jesse's name again? Aw, f*** it. Nieto, you're in."

I would be interested to see what, if any, discussion with his agent have been like with Dubas. I don't think he's in the "find ANY team to give him a 1yr league min deal" phase anymore but certainly not in the "we have multiples offers from several teams". I do think he'd get claimed if he was waived and I agree that I don't think he gets much in a trade. I'd say maybe a 5th? A 4th if we're lucky (trying to think if he has any more value than Chad Rudwedel)?

But I would be okay bringing him back next year. I'd be fine with a 1-2yr deal around 1-1.5mil IF the intention is to make him a regular part of the roster with the intent of cleaning house a bit and trimming the fat a bit. Nieto comes off the books as does DOC, Beau, and potentially guys like Glass and Tomasino so the roster spot and cap are definitely there. I would just rather retain Puljujarvi and stick him more firmly at 3/4RW next year. Literally everyone else I'm meh about - even DOC. I think at this point I'd rather get the 4th for him at the TDL. If we can move Acciari or Hayes and he wants to come back, fine.

Other than Mcgroarty, I'm not sure what they can even offer. The Pens firsts are definitely off the table. There has to be a Pettersson trade in the works if the trades involves picks imo

It would likely be McGroarty and a minor plus, probably one of their 3rds.

Would suck to give up McGroarty but Jiricek simply has a higher upside. No brainer to do McGroarty and a 3rd for Jiricek IMO. Especially with how good WBS's forward group is right now, I think you can afford to trade McGroarty and plan on going forward drafting heavy in the next few drafts.

Their long-term top-4 would be sitting well with Jiricek, Pickering and Brunicke as 3 of the 4 and they're obviously well set in net with Murashov and Blomqvist. They can really focus heavily on forwards at that point, both with draft picks and acquired prospects in trades.

I made this post in the WBS thread as well, but WBS is super deep at forwards after the Tomisano addition and Puustinen demotion. A lot of those guys don't have great NHL upside, but I think keeping WBS strong and being a consistently contending team is important for prospect development. Even if you trade McGroarty, they're sitting with this top-9:

Bemstrom-Ponomarev-Koivunen
Pouilin-Broz-Puustinen
Gruden-Katchouk-Hayes

And all of Koppanen, Johnstone, Huntington and Imama as veterans and Andovski, Joshua and Ansons as non-veterans to fill out the 4th line. I think the young guys in this group (plus Hayes, who should be signed) only have bottom-6 upside, but it's an extremely strong forward group that should really have WBS a highly competitive team.

With trading McGroarty for Jiricek, I'd say that bottom-6 forwards, defensemen and goalies are all good in the Penguins prospect pool. They'd just have no one outside of Koivunen and maybe Broz (as a winger) and Howe as top-6 upside, and those guys have much more middle-6 upside than top-6 upside. They'd need to pretty much exclusively focus on getting high upside forwards after that, but I don't mind doing that.

So Hronek is out long-term and the Canucks are running this D:

Hughes-Myers
Brannstrom-Juulsen
Soucy-Desharnais

They need a Rd first but come on JR, make your patented 1st + prospect deal for Pettersson
