Was reading some stuff on the Athletic and a name popped out as another Tomasino, Jiricek, former first round pick buy low candidate.

Brendan Brisson.

He's 23, 29th overall pick in 2020, had a little bit of time with Vegas but mostly playing in the AHL. He can't seem to stick in their lineup.

Why mention him? He's the son of Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent. Crosby knows Brendan well. If Dubas feels a need to curry a little favor with Sid amidst all this, maybe he tries to bring in a familiar face who also needs a change of scenery.
He's heading into bust territory, but for next to nothing, sure. Tomasino is far more accomplished and we got him for the RAGS 4th in '27 so...

VAN doesn't have cap space, even with retention. Also, I doubt we'd get a 1st for MP as a rental.
Puckpedia says they have $735k. Any LD would have to be an upgrade on Soucy and his $3.25 million which would then be moved.

Capwages has them at under 500k, but even 735k isn't much.

They aren't dealing Brisson. He was on the third line when he was called up and sent him back down as he can pass waivers and wanted him to get more ice time. He's a top 6 type and they don't want him on the third line etc.

He's not a change of scenery candidate at all.

Although I'd 100000% would love to see the Pens get Brisson and then Sullivan gives him absolute garbage usage like he will and 4th line minutes with barely 5-7mins a game and piss off Pat which has him say go f*** yourself to Dubas and any of his clients suddenly become hard to deal with during negotiations because of Pat and they fire Sullivan in the summer.

One can wish.

It would be f***ing hilarious - Pens don't fire Sullivan, he shits all over Brisson, they get the lottery win and Pat reps the top pick and he's like yeah go eat shit Dubas, player pulls a Cutter.

Hahaha, eat shit FSG.

Puustinen finally waived. f***ing took forever.

Hopefully he's claimed. I want to see what he can do with literally any other team and especially in the NHL for a coach not named Sullivan.

Hopefully he's claimed.

The absolute garbage post in the trade forum saying last year was some fluke for him, lol. To be that petty is quite special.

I don’t know about terrific. That’s a whole lot of what it’s. What makes Pettersson so valuable?

He's not super valuable, but I think the same reason I'd want him is the same reason why Vancouver wouldn't be too keen on trading him for a rental. He brings a physical element that a lot of their defense is lacking. He's also close to NHL ready (according to Canucks fans) so trading him for a rental is something I'm not sure they'd do.

I'm not sure I buy the hype they're throwing out with Brannstrom, but if he is a long-term piece for them, they'll have 3 extremely undersized puck movers on their defense with Hughes, Hronek and Brannstrom. Pettersson's size and physicality is a stark contrast with the general softness of the rest of that defense.

Not only that, but their 2 best D prospects outside of Pettersson (Willander and Mynio) are more of the same: 6'-ish and 180 lb-ish puck movers. I think Mynio and a 1st for Pettersson is a lot more feasible just because of how redundant Mynio is with the Canucks, while Pettersson is a much more unique player in their system.

As an aside, I actually wonder if Mynio makes sense for the Penguins as a target. Especially if they add Jiricek, they're not exactly lacking in puck moving on the defense. That said, all 3 of Jiricek, Brunicke and Pickering are pretty big defensemen, so I think I could see the appeal of having a smaller puck mover type with them. Especially with him being a good skater that can mask some of Jiricek's skating issues, I think you could go with:

Mynio-Jiricek
Pickering-Brunicke

Sportsnet's Chris Johnston is saying this is all coming from a disconnect between Jiricek and the Jackets. Where he thinks he should be given more of an opportunity and the team's still kinda waiting for him to show more before they commit to giving him a permanent spot in the NHL. The cliche "player wants a fresh start" situation. FWIW
He shouldnt come here if he is upset with his playing time.

I understand he is only 20, but how he is not being given a chance with this is as his competition?
