The dream scenario to pull off IMO:

-Pettersson at 50% to Vancouver for Pettersson and Vancouver's 2025 1st
-Murashov, Vancouver's 2025 1st and their highest 2025 3rd to Columbus for Jiricek

Sets up the top-4 defense long-term to be:

Pickering-Jiricek
Pettersson-Brunicke

That looks terrific to me. Granted you could have said the same thing about the Penguins D prospects back when they had Pouliot, Maatta, Dumoulin, Harrington and Morrow, but still. That defense is really big (all are 6'3" or taller) with a lot of puck moving talent. Jiricek would be their PP1 QB, Pickering and Brunicke would be their PP2 defensemen and all 4 would be regulars on the PK.

Are these deals realistic? I'd bet not, I doubt Vancouver would add a 1st on top of Pettersson for MP and that basically kills the premise of the 2nd deal. That said, I don't think it's so far off that it's suggesting something ridiculous.
Man, I hope Dubas doesn’t pay that boatload for a defenseman who can’t even make the BJ’s roster…

According to Flyers beat writer Brandon Sommermann, Kyle Dubas is currently in Philadelphia to scout Golden Knights-Flyers and was "locked in on a conversation for a good 10 minutes" with Flyers general manager Danny Briere.

Just a note because people seem to think a lot of Dubas' scouting trips are for Hockey Canada for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off: Dubas isn't the GM for Canada, he's the director of player personnel, and he's previously said that anything he's doing ahead of that tournament doesn't take away from his Penguins duties, and if anything, really just keeps him from watching his Detroit Lions on Sundays. Some of these trips might be for the tournament, but some are very clearly not, like Sunday's trip to scout an AHL game. I previously reported he went to Buffalo for Canadiens-Sabres, a scouting trip for which he brought along Jason Spezza and Amanda Kessel ... neither of whom are affiliated with Hockey Canada, with the latter being American.

The D-man Elias Pettersson is a physical DFD. Basically imagine MP but add 30 lbs and a mean streak, that's his upside.

Obviously questionable if he hits that upside, but he brings such a unique element that I'd really want him to be a part of any MP to Vancouver deal.

Gonna have some fun here and project an optimistic, everyone pans out and Dubas doesn't trade certain guys for picks roster for next year.

Rakell Crosby Rust
McGroarty Malkin Tomasino
Bunting DOC Puljujarvi
Hayes Lizotte Gruden
Ponomarev Koivunen

Pettersson Karlsson
Pickering Letang
Graves St Ivany
Brunicke

Blomqvist
Jarry/Mirashov

That's... Better than what we have now I guess. I'm guessing Petts and DOC get dealt though, and some of the kids won't be as ready as we might like. The above is going to still leave a sizeable ammount of cap space to add an impact player. Either a real top 4 D or an impact winger.

VAN doesn't have cap space, even with retention. Also, I doubt we'd get a 1st for MP as a rental.

If Dubas pulls off a trade with the Flyers I’ll give him props.

No clue what that would be about. Goalies? Flyers have no goalies.

Mean streak is a stretch. I've seen him play in person several times, he finishes his checks hard but he doesn't go seeking big hits. He just will follow through on his hits and likes to separate player from puck with a hard hit vs just a bump or wall rub out.

He's a good skater, I like his backwards skating a lot for a bloke his size, it's super fluid. But he's also lanky as shit like Marcus. He's barely 200lbs seeing him in person and in his street clothes, for 6'3" he doesn't look that filled out but he throws hard enough hits for that combo anyway. He has a solid upside as a good partner to someone like an OFD the way Methot was for Karlsson.

The issue on D-Petey as they call him, is he's not that great of a first pass type and his handling of the puck isn't great. He was a 3rd round pick and you can see why, if he could carry the puck like Marcus or a good first pass like Marcus, he would have gone high 2nd or late first.

I'd want D Petey and a conditional first out of them for Marcus. Abbotsford isn't that far of a drive so it's easy to pop in for a game to see some prospects from other teams etc.

For the Flyers? I mean he could also be doing his team Canada thing like it was mentioned - Konecny is having a good season and he could be looking at his game, Pietrangelo etc too.

Flyers are doing better than the Pens with a dipshit like Torts.

I don’t know about terrific. That’s a whole lot of what it’s. What makes Pettersson so valuable?

I'd do that but I would go Vancouver's 2025 1st and Larsson.

Don't think I'd trade Murashov or Blom. The Jackets aren't really negotiating from a position of power in the deal.

Honestly, I don't get the fascination. If you're able to buy low, great! But if several teams are in the mix, not sure we should be involved in a bidding war.
He's 20 so if you imagine the difference between Letang at 20 (bottom pairing dman) vs Letang when he was 23 (#1 dman), the possibilities are very exciting. He genuinely has #1 defenseman potential. But if he doesn't get less awkward, it's a risk.

Let's be clear, we CANNOT miss on such decisions! Every highly touted pick has to hit! We don't have the luxury for any of our 1st round or 1st round caliber picks to fail! Poulin has to be the last for some time! If Jiricek has skating woes I'd be quite careful here. Brunicke and Howe look good relative to where they were drafted, and if we can accrue good value beyond our 1sts great! Iylin looks like a good value pick thus far. but any 1st rounder over the next three years has to be a home run. And that goes for any trades involving our top prospects. Although we're not exactly rolling in them currently.

Our future goaltenders in Blom and Murashov look solid. Brunicke and Howe might be players also. Ilyin as well. But this process will take years. The cupboard was bare, we're just starting this process in earnest. McGROAR has to get his act together. He played well here with the big club. He needs to start dominating in the ''A''.

Puju if afforded an ample opportunity could be a great value to us if he continues in the right direction. Tomasino hopefully makes a good account of himself.

Was reading some stuff on the Athletic and a name popped out as another Tomasino, Jiricek, former first round pick buy low candidate.

Brendan Brisson.

He's 23, 29th overall pick in 2020, had a little bit of time with Vegas but mostly playing in the AHL. He can't seem to stick in their lineup.

Why mention him? He's the son of Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent. Crosby knows Brendan well. If Dubas feels a need to curry a little favor with Sid amidst all this, maybe he tries to bring in a familiar face who also needs a change of scenery.
