Karlsson absolutely doesn't have this kind of value, but I'm wondering how much the Penguins would have to add on top of him in a deal around this basis:

Penguins trade Karlsson at $5 million+
Senators trade Zub and Pinto

Ottawa is struggling just as much as the Penguins, and it sounds like they may be making a trade with their core. Zub (-7 in 11 games) and Pinto (3 points and -7 in 12 games) are also both having bad starts to the year. Zub makes $4.6 million a year for 3 years and Pinto makes $3.75 million a year for 2 years, so neither are particularly cheap either. Pinto just turned 24 though, so that makes me strongly doubt they'd trade him for Karlsson even at $5 million.

I am very skeptical the Penguins have the + there to make this deal work, but it would be a nice chance at getting a quality young guy if they could pull it off.

Edit: or maybe the Senators would prefer to move Jensen since he's older than Zub. Jensen and Pinto for Karlsson at $5 million seems....doable? Maybe?

I don’t think they would move Pinto, but think we could get Grieg and a 2nd.

Zub, Greig and a 2nd for Karlsson at $5 million would be an instant yes for me, which makes me skeptical that the Senators would do it.

Taking out the 2nd does make it seem feasible, and that's much easier to make work with the cap.

Doesn't EK have trade protection?

I think this team would have to go on like a 0-10-0 stretch in order for Sully to be fired in-season tbh. But I do think he's closer to being fired than ever before. Maybe it's cope but I think the dude's donezo as soon as the regular season's over.

Fingers crossed and all that shit.
What's worse for Sullivan? Being fired mid-season or whatever the f*** this is?

Dubas protecting his own ass by not firing him makes some sense, but not firing him to protect his 'legacy' with the team or hurt his feelings or whatever is worse than watching them sink to the bottom of the league.

...I suppose it depends on how the team responds if he were to get fired. If they go on a Theriren-to-Bylsma or Johnston-to-Sullivan type of run, it would look real bad, but if they continue to suck, then it would be a "See!?! It's not my fault" type of situation.

I don’t care about Sullivan’s feelings or how it “looks”…Dubas needs to fire him. The issue is not necessarily the losses, but how they lose. The lack of will, the lack of compete, the lack of caring is what drives people nuts about this team. Sure the roster is flawed, but defending hard and trying to compete does not require skill. The lack of work ethic is what needs to change even if Dubas thinks Sullivan is trying everything lol…firing sends a message to everyone that the organization won’t stand for being an embarrassing beer league team…Dubas is a sham if he won’t do it and FSG will have zero credibility

Sullivan’s legacy with the team gets worse every game. So don’t know what you are protecting by keeping him around.

Going on 7 years without winning a round and 3 years missing the playoffs. Shit even the year Bylsma was fired they made the playoffs and won a round.

Maybe another blown 2-goal lead will push Sullivan to his own "dey soff" rant and finally put the last nail in the coffin.

I don't think Pickering is being scratched, I think the 3rd pair is Pickering-St. Ivany.

But agree with you on Poulin, it's ridiculous that Nieto is playing.

The D pairings should be..

Petts - EK65
Picks - Letang
Shea - St Ivany

It's bizarre we haven't gone back to Shea - St Ivany once this year after they were a great 3rd pairing for us to finish off the end of the season.

"Performance matters" though.

For how much Sullivan slobbers all over his guys and how excellent they are on the PK, this PK is starting to look like shit.

Has he maybe tried coaching the team to not take penalties. so maybe the Pens can sign some guys that have offensive abilites and not just be "good" on the PK?
