It also reinforces how poor the chances we create are. And it’s been like that for half a decade, it’s just that we used to have top of the league ability to finish our chances.

We miss you. Hopefully all is good.
Things are good... just insanely busy. And while I'm happy with the travel and overtime... I do kind of miss the time where I only had a few hrs of work a day and basically got paid to bs about hockey all day long. I don't miss those paycheques... but I miss the free time.
Riptide's posting? What's next, Kirk out of retirement? He still never admitted to me that Pancakes > Waffles
Intermittently. We had a slow spell... only 70 or so hours and 2 out of town trips this week. But am on the road most of the next few weeks and expect the rest of the schedule to get filled up by then.

But I got to see the Pens live last season in PIT (vs FLA and MTL) so all the trips and OT is worth it.

On the flip side... because I'm so busy... I don't have the time to watch as many games (I think it took me a week to watch the MTL game the other day)... and see how badly these guys are playing. Ugh.

I am sick of the salary cap rising

Is league revenue even up? Does anyone care about the NHL? How are we raising cap in an economy where operating costs are soaring?

This is gonna get another lockout soon. Owners keep f***ing themselves with bad contracts and raising cap isn't the solution to that bad idea.

If it goes up $10 mil, we can dump Jarry for only the cost of a 2050 3rd!

We're getting Marner, aren't we? Yes we are ha.
Man I hope not. Not because Marner's bad, but you don't build on top of a Marner foundation. Marner's a guy you throw the kitchen sink at when you've got like a McKenna or a Dupont already and you're tryin' to get goin' imo.

I'm not big on circling misery. I have friends that are - so I'm not unaware of what it looks or sounds like - but I have a genuine ask:

- What is left to talk about at this point? I would like to start being more active on here again but this team sucks ass. They've sucked ass for years now. They look the same every.single.season, except that this season they've somehow SHRUNK an offense that was nearly non-existent entering the year.

Sully is responsible for most. Dubas is in a respectable second place there. So what's worth discussing? There's no chance that anything ever changes so long as Sully is in the organization - he's got his hands in everything and is directly responsible for nearly all bad decisions in the past 5 years. They've given him all the toys he's ever wanted (a roster full of offensively inept PKers, horrible PMD with no 'D', and bad goalies he can pin the blame on). They've done this year after year after year. So cool...

I lurk occasionally, hoping that we actually fire sale / fire Sully or fire Dubas, or trade for an NHL player who can score goals. None of those things is probable. The upcoming draft is not really inspiring either. So maybe it's just time to ignore hockey and come back in the next era. I find it more painful to watch my favorite players on a shit team than to just not watch their retirement tour at all. I've watched one game this season. Maybe that'll be it.

Can they not raise it and get rid of the jersey and helmet advertising as well as a few of the on ice ads? Very unattractive imo.
How would raising the salary cap get rid of jersey advertisements? It would only increase expenses?

It’s a poor league because it doesn’t have the lucrative TV deals other sports have.

It sucks they couldn't get interest built up in the early 00s...cause now they'll NEVER have a lucrative tv deal because no one even really has tv anymore

And the NHL is also trash at streaming

So they're effed

Instead of raising the cap they could use that money to cover getting rid of ads.

Don't worry, Arizona will be back for an ungodly expansion fee to save the day!

We're getting Marner, aren't we? Yes we are ha.
Man I hope so. Honestly, that might be the only thing that saves Dubas at this point. For all his faults, of which there seem to be many, he at least built good regular-season squads in Toronto based on offense. His teams were flawed, weak and clearly not built for the playoffs. But man, I would take that here right about now!

Marner is a top-six winger and the type of player that can lead a team in scoring, while playing both special teams. He is exactly what Crosby and Malkin need at this stage of their careers. Sullivan still plays 87 and 71 21 minutes per game! A top dog is high up there on our list of needs. If one becomes available, and we have a chance to land him, Dubas must try hard.

Nothing is going to change without a coaching change, for sure. And replacing Sullivan with Quinn is NOT a coaching change. It's non-related nepotism. So that is and always will be the first priority. Beyond that, we need to figure out a way to get rid of Jarry, find a relatively young and relatively stable left defenseman to replace Pettersson, find out what we have in the few young players we are actually playing right now, draft our future first or second-line center, AND bring in a top-six forward.

Again, this is a team that is not doing a full-on rebuild. And that could be the right decision if a few or all of those needs are filled. It starts behind the bench, though.
