Some bad news.

“Penguins will not commit to a full rebuild until Sidney Crosby retires” - Dreger

“Penguins ownership really likes Mike Sullivan, and he has a great relationship with Sidney Crosby” - Freidman

It supports the narrative that Sid and the players might be the reason they don’t want to move on from Sully. Honestly I can see it. Why bring in a coach this late in their careers that’s going to challenge them?

Anybody with a single braincell knows that if Sid didn't love Sullivan as his coach, the dude would've been gone years ago.

People can bitch all they want and pretend like Sid's just a victim of circumstance but he's a huge reason Sullivan's still here. All he'd have to do is say peep and Sully would be replaced, regardless of how much Dubas or FSG love the guy.

And yeah, this organization's being held hostage--in perpetual suspended animation--until Sid gets his final Olympics. So instead of a full teardown, they need to have the spine to start selling pieces with value like Petts, Rakell, Rust, and EK. But they won't. /shrug

Wow…I hope Sullivan doesn’t ruin this kid lol…

Completely supports the narrative that they don’t care about winning…

But I honestly believe Sid hates losing. So he’s just deluded himself into thinking they can still win with this front office?

Because they are competitive people, as it stands now they are the 7th worst team in the league, and Sullivan is a big part of that.

If Sid said he wanted him gone, he'd be gone, but Sid would never say that. It's not who he is.

As far as Sid's feelings on Sullivan, I have no doubt he likes him, but it's also more complicated than that. I think Sid either consciously or subconsciously knows this is not working anymore and will not work going forward. Whether that's because he doesn't believe in what Sullivan is preaching anymore or because he realizes the rest of the team doesn't, it doesn't really matter. But he looks very Johnston-era Sid.

Just like Sid would not go to management directly and say "I want him gone!", I doubt he's going to management and saying "If he's gone, I'm gone, too!"

Even if Sid loves Sullivan and believes in him 100%, he'd get over him getting fired. Just like he got over Bylsma getting fired. Or Guentzel getting traded. Or any other number of players and coaches that moved on.

Perhaps Pettersson is going to Van?
We better get a first for Petts or a really good prospect or Dubious will have failed….

I just hope this means the Matt Grz experience of playing a shitty player with too many consonants in his name is OVER lol…

They have the cap space, why not leave a spot open and rotate the kids in. Give them a couple games to see strengths and weaknesses

There has to be a corresponding move, right?

I went to the Pens website to check the transactions, but apparently their website people have given up, too. The last transaction they list is McGroarty being sent down a month ago.

As for Pickering, I'm sure some dork like Grizzlick is banged up or something.

But I honestly believe Sid hates losing. So he’s just deluded himself into thinking they can still win with this front office?
I think in order to get to Sid's level, you have to have a near-delusional amount of confidence in yourself and your teammates. So yes, I think he's a bit delusional.

No, assuming Lizotte is on IR, which I guess he hasn’t been placed on, so yeah lol…They would have 22 of 23 contracts before Pickering was called up, using IR. They have the cap space also to bring him up. Likely this just means a second D man is scratched and it should be Grz

The Eller trade opened up some cap space so I don’t think there needs to be any corresponding move.

Anyways, bring McGroaty back up top and just ride him, Pickering, and Pono the rest of the year. Sit Gryz and whatever two bottom six veterans that don’t provide anything. If we’re going to be bad on purpose, let’s see what the prospects can do at least. That would at least give me something to look forward to.

I thought Blomqvist was sent down due to roster limit reasons?

Im also jaded and im 70% sure Ponomarev and/or Pickering being showcased for trade reasons to move in a package for a young, established roster player.

Good to see they are finally bringing up some of these young guys so the coaching staff can get to work ruining them as quickly as possible.

Likely better than the fate they are in for should they stay.

Ryan Shea is not an NHL defenseman. I have no idea why he was not waived a long time ago. Especially since we are playing him as a rotational right defenseman. It makes zero sense. It is a no-brainer to waive him for the purpose of assignment to the AHL and bring up Pickering, but who knows.

If Nieto is back on the roster (not sure that has been confirmed), then we need to make a roster move. Lizotte to IR seems to make the most sense.

There's a contracts limit, though. And they've brought up Poulin, Pono, Nieto, and now Pickering.

I don't think "showcasing" is really a thing that happens anymore.

Scouts can just tune into AHL games pretty easily to see if they like a guy.

Lizotte is probably just going on IR as the corresponding move here. It is interesting that they’re calling up Pickering but he needs to actually be playing, which I’m unsure if he will.

I just hope every one of these young guys is a "Sullivan Player™" or this is going to be a very brief, brutal and entirely ineffectual player development cycle.
