Guys, it’s one thing to not like the trade. The homer-ism is nuts. Karlsson is washed up? From what, his Norris caliber days?Indeed. Samoskevich, Knight and a first for a washed up one dimensional Dman and a back up goalie? That's just horrible.
Florida says no thanks.Penguins get: Panthers 2026 1st and Samoskevich
Hawks get: Knight and Schmidt (needed for FLA to squeeze under cap)
Panthers get: Karlsson @ 6M and Nedeljkovic @ 1.25M (retained 50% by Hawks)
Looking at Panthers roster, they could use Karlsson I think. Getting him for 2.5 seasons at $6M would be huge, and Ned is a great backup to Bob. They go all in for a shot at b2b cups.
Penguins have to retain a lot ($4M) on EK. But getting a 1st and quality, young roster player is great. Ned is a decent goalie but not the long term answer for us.
Hawks get Knight for the price of Schmidt (cap dump, UFA at years end) and retaining 1.25M on Ned for next 2 years. This depends on how they view Knight, but a change of scenery for him maybe be good. The elite potential may still be there.
Thoughts?
How would you describe Ned's stats? Why would a team trying to contend and adding an older player like Karlsson at the expense of young players and picks ALSO downgrade at G in the now? That makes zero sense.Karlsson at 6M (that’s 4M retained) for 2.5 years is a very good asset though. Really don’t think a 2026 1st and Rodrigues gets it done. Would have to be a pretty darn good piece added and I don’t see that on FLA outside of Samo.
A late 1st and Rodrigues would be like a rental price. Not a guy you’re getting for 2.5 seasons.
So idk maybe there’s no fit between these teams if FLA balks at that price
Admittedly I don’t watch the games so can’t say for sure, but Knights stats this year don’t scream “playing extremely well”
We’re not a fan of the trade…or the idea of Karlsson on the team. Ek is slow af, but he’s still better defensively than Karlsson…who has 2 years left after this one. Panthers can move on from Ekblad, sign him to less, and use that 5ish mil from Karlsson elsewhere while not losing younger pieces. All of that could be moved, sure, but it’s a mistake to use it all for a guy like Karlsson.Guys, it’s one thing to not like the trade. The homer-ism is nuts. Karlsson is washed up? This washed up D-man would be the Panthers highest point producing defenseman while making less $ than Ekblad haha and he is currently on a horrendous team.
Just say you’re not a fan of the trade and move on. Jeez
Ned is a fine back up goalie, which is how I am pitching him in the trade. Bob is the starter so I was saying if they traded Knight, that Ned would be a good backup option. Not sure how that is controversial to say or even debatable. Not saying that Ned is awesome or even better than Knight. How would you describe Ned's stats? I would direct you to every other post in the thread aside from yours, in which there is good hockey banter, in which people explain thought processes and points of view to chat about disagreements like adults. Pittsburgh retains $4M on EK in the proposal. Pretty sure it was a honest mistake by you so I won’t be upset lolTrying to figure out how Pit is the ones looking to trade EK, but retain nothing on the contract and yet still get back a pretty good return. Meanwhile, Florida is the one paying for the retention and giving up a good amount for a dman that probably isn’t really of need for them. And I don’t think Chicago has any interest in retaining that much for that long to only receive back Knight. Pit should be the team retaining here or at least the ones paying for another team to retain. A 1st + another piece might be of more interest to Florida without also giving up their possible future starter.
Don’t feel too bad. You made one the worst offers ever. It can only go up from here!
