Penguins have been eliminated from playoff contention for the 3rd straight season! 😬

Yeah….no.

Geno has had his ass kicked by injuries and Father Time and Letang has basically been a brainless (even more than before) corpse on skates for 2-3 years now.
When Geno played with Rust and Jason Zucker a couple of years ago that was a kickass second line. Lately he’s played with Reilly Smith, Beauvilier, Bunting, Drew O’Conner and a little last year with Rakell. He needs more help but is still a good second line center

Oh wow, a team that started a rebuild a year ago still has a way to go in their rebuild. What a shock!

It's hilarious fans are taking shots at the Penguins in here as if Penguins fans think this team should be good or will be good anytime soon. Most Penguins fans don't think this team will be good again until like 2029 at the earliest.
So.....about the time Crosby retires the team will be good again?

His moves over the past year have said he has no idea wtf he's doing or what the goal is

He's not rebuilding and he's not competing

His moves over the past year suggest that he's trying to build a contender around Crosby but failed. I don't think this is a rebuild, just a failed attempt at trying to build a contender.

I am no Dubas acolyte, but he came in under pressure from ownership to avoid a rebuild. He took a big swing on Karlsson that didn't work out and gave Jarry a contract he didn't deserve...but since then he has made a lot of smart moves to sell off impending free agents for picks and prospects. The Pens' farm system, while not the league's best, is in a much better place than it was when Dubas was hired. They aren't going scorched earth, but they are rebuilding with the intent to be a contender again before Sid retires.

They should follow the Boston model and tank. Crosby can pad his stats in peace since he has no pressure after delivering 3 cups.
What exactly do you think they are doing this year?

They may have 2 top 10 picks in the draft. Or two top 10 in the next draft depending on what the Rangers decide with their pick this year.

They are offloading contracts and I would be shocked if more of their aging core isn’t moved in the summer.

You don't re-sign Crosby for 2 years if you plan on doing a real rebuild. They're clearly still going to try and at least make the playoffs for the next 2 years. No real RFAs to re-sign to anything significant. They've got some cap, they'll use it.
This is exactly what they will do. They have a bunch of cap and no one to sign.

They will trade Rakell for what they hope will be an NHL ready young player, trade Karlsson for hopefully the same after retaining.

And they will sit on their draft picks.

They potentially have 2 top 10 picks. Or if the Rangers choose to push it to next year, two first rounders in a loaded draft.

They can still “act” like they are trying for Crosby while shifting their focus to the future. Which is exactly what they did this year.

I respect the hell out of Sid wanting to play his entire career in Pittsburgh. But I don't think there's a single non basement dwelling person that would look at him differently if he asked to be moved.

The truth is the team’s front office has been in shambles since 2018.

Dubas came in trying to make the team a playoff calibre team, but pretty much every decision he made that first offseason was awful.

Now, Pens’ fans praise the guy for “pivoting.” He only pivoted from building a contender to a retool because of his awful moves.

Look how the Capitals retooled under Ovechkin, zero excuse for the Pens.
Yep. Maybe the Penguins can have all of their 1st round draft picks back that they spent to win cups, and have albatross contracts come off their books by aging players being hurt to spend money elsewhere.

Maybe they can get Letang to get injured for an LTIR stint, go back in time to get all their 1st rounders back as well…

It’s like people don’t think before speaking on these forums.
