It’d be fine watching them decline if they tried to succeed and failed.

That’s why I give Hextall more rope than Dubas. He tried. He sucked ass at it, but Rakell and Carter were at least attempts.

Dubas just gave up. He’s a loser and people want to celebrate it.

I would argue that, roster wise, they are trying….just very poorly to the point where they might as well not have done anything.

Some of the deals I'd call good. EK trade was good on paper. The young roster guys for peanuts have been shrewd moves. But on the other hand, the signings have been f***ing garbage, and reupping Jarry was just lazy and stupid as hell, Dubas acted like he was the last goalie left on the planet and was massively lazy. And of course the 800,000 lb gorilla/elephant love child in the room: the coach that can somehow never fail. His teams lose, his assistants get canned, but he walks above it all. If we were actually trying to win we all know he’d be the first to go. But Sullivan has this franchise’s nuts in a jar on his desk, so I’ve given up on that.

What’s inexcusable is that, after 30 games of more mediocrity this season, that Dubas (or ownership assuming they care) didn’t sit up and say “we’re failing, badly for a second season running and drastic roster changes/a fire sale are needed”. We’re just sleepwalking into another bottom 10 finish, after making so many embarrassing noises about “competing” and nobody associated with the org gives a shit.

I can't wait to see how the teams spins keeping Sullivan after 3 straight playoff misses. There's going to be ungodly amounts of glazing done for his 10 year anniversary in December of this year. No playoff series win in 7 years is truly remarkable and someone worth keeping around
