Confirmed with Link: Penguins and Mike Sullivan part ways

I would guess that Sullivan wanted out more than anything else.

And will be hired very quickly with several offers.

Why would he want to ride the Titanic down another three years and then be part of a complete rebuild?

I am not defending Sully, but he was the least of the issues facing this team. It really does not metter who they hire as HC except to develop players for the future.

No, he wasted Malkin is more like it. Sid he wanked off as much as he could and that was the biggest problem because he did it at the expense of Malkin playing well and the rest of the line up. I hope a new coach is smarter than what Sullivan kept doing to Geno.

I’d look at coaches like - Graham, Nelson, Carle (still someone I will keep cheerleading), etc.

I really hope Dubas doesn’t go for a retread like the geezers that keep playing musical chairs.

lol my dude you aren't entirely wrong but Malkin will be lucky to rack up 40 points next season regardless of who is coaching.

Jesus, people. Read the damn thread.

THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN. Other reporters refuted it and Dubas flat out shot it down.

Were those reporters present during the actual meeting with Sully & Dubas? If not, then they have nothing firsthand to "refute".

Dubas "shot it down"? What did he say while "shooting it down"?

"I AM THE MAN! I AM THE TOUGHEST GUY AROUND! I AM CLARK KENT BEHIND THESE NERD GLASSES! SULLY BEGGED ME TO LET HIM STAY AND I TOLD HIM TO HIT THE BRICKS!" 🤓

Ownership sided with Sully over JR. JR had his warts, but the last seven years would have been soo much better if he had won the power struggle.
Sullivan had the owners ear when it was Mario too. The moment JR let Sullivan dictate the move to trade Cole and futures that would have helped this team to rid them of Reaves and Cole because Sullivan pouted like a little bitch for Big Game Ass, that was the beginning of the end.

f*** Sullivan and the Dunkin Donut horse his stupid Masshole ass rode in on. And if Sid is sad, go f*** off and be with your boy Sully too then you soft headed wanker.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Sullivan realized he's a bit on the older side of coaches and likely only has about another 5-7 or so years before he retires. Dubas clearly fired him and was the one making the decision to move on, but I have a feeling Sullivan isn't exactly upset about it.

I think he'll get a nice contract from the Rangers and will probably retire after coaching the Rangers. He doesn't have a ton of time left as a NHL coach.

Mate, Malkin will bounce back in a big way just not having Sullivan around. Bookmark this shit. You’ll see.

He's like 40 and couldn't even crack 20 goals last year while getting back on the injury bus.

I love the dude and you are right that it's a real shame he's had to kinda make do with some REAL suspect linemates over the last few years when he's needed help most but he's toast my guy. The best thing they can do is put him on Crosby's wing but he's probably not good enough to hang there anymore, either.

So after being able to hear the presser, its probably going to be a coach who never has been an NHL head coach before, Sid wasn’t as attached to Sully as people claimed, and our media is embarrassing.

An NHL GM having to spend 5 minutes during a press conference explaining that you can’t trade staff members and that the NHL eliminated compensation for hiring fired staff members years ago is inexcusable. This is basic knowledge.

I was wondering where all the "compensation for Sully" stuff was coming from. They got rid of that years ago.

The only question was what happens with his salary.

Do not understand the fascination with Tocchet.
He knows the core, he can address the need to support the core and youth coming in.

I personally do not think a newbie will sit well with the current situation.

Just to be clear, the HC hire doesn't have to be a permanent one, but it does have to fit the current need.

Yeah I think the team is going to be dreadful next year. They're going to be giving multiple players a chance to rebound and see if they can be better under a new coach, I think Graves and Jarry both fall under that (since they'll have a new goalie coach too).

With Sullivan gone, I'm more inclined to believe that they'll be giving more young players a chance as well. The odds of Brunicke making the team are higher now, and I can really see the defense shaping up into something like:

EK Trade-Letang
Pickering-Timmins
Graves-Brunicke
Shea
This would be fine with me. I think St Ivany is a fine fallback plan if Brunicke isn't ready for the jump as well. But that 1LD needs to be a stud.

Listen, no one thinks the pipeline at this time is all that great. They just started that process of accruing good young talent in the last year. They're moving it along, but it's like only mile four of the marathon. As the carpenters use to say, ''We've only just begun''. We all understand that. But at least we have begun. Unlike under previous regimes
