Honestly, I don't want a big name coach. Any hot young thing (helloooooo, nurse) will want an NHL job, regardless of how bad the current situation is. The Ducks haven't struggled to lure in coveted young coaches

I think a lot of people will say this name, but I disagree. I think there is something to establishing a new culture. Think about the eras:

MT (discipline)
Bylsma (LOL no discipline -wiffle ball)
Sully (discipline)

I think we need a small era of a Bylsma (but you know.. someone who can actually plan x's and o's) to bring in an era of culture to the team and an identity. But I do think a coach with a ton of grace and not a hard discipline coach.

Yeah I would imagine he gave feedback on what he wanted from the roster as most coaches do but I never saw Sully as a guy who would do that.

Honestly I feel way better about this organization going forward with Sullivan fired and Dubas leading the charge. It's now officially "his team" rather than trying to stick with what he came in with. What he said today definitely makes me feel confident going forward with him.

Now it's time to back that talk up.

He almost certainly has. Reading between the lines, he wants a coach who

a) promotes young, talented players

b) plays a system based on speed

c) hasn't had an NHL job

d) is currently playoff bound



I don't have time to research this, but the list shouldn't be too long.

Seriously. There weren’t any questions about that even when Jake was traded and IMO that was probably a bigger to Sid than this.

I think that people (and the local media especially) have been repeating this idea that Sullivan and Sid are thick as thieves for so long that they are just married to it, now. I've never believed it. I'm sure he has the appropriate level of respect and professionalism towards him but it's such Pittsburgh-esque fanfiction to work the head coach in as the main character in this story when he's just... not.

Crosby never got upset or shitty when they traded his buddies... he's not gonna care that they dumped a head coach that hasn't done jack in years.

Sullivan was the right coach for the right team for a while. He's been the wrong coach for the wrong team for longer.

He'll have success elsewhere, but he wasn't going to have any more success here. This is overdue and I wish him well.

Also also another big point of attempting to tie Crosby and Sullivan's fates together is simply to help run cover for the loser head coach. Which has been a like... full time job for the local media for many years, now.

Because people might criticize Mike Sullivan. But very few will criticize Sid.
