Confirmed with Link: Penguins and Mike Sullivan part ways

Everything is possible now! If they really want to go for McKenna, you can do so far more easily with everybody on the same page. If you want to reset and try for the playoffs, you can go for it far more easily now. And if Dubas wants to continue doing his improbable rebuild on the fly with a playoff appearance for the core, he can be a little more successful at that too!

My list of preferred coaching candidates:

Chris Lazary
Jay McKee
Jay Woodcroft
Jeff Halpern
Patrick Roy
Pascal Vincent

- I think Dubas should go to his OHL roots. Lazary has been described as an offensive innovator in Saginaw. Rough end to this season but he won a Memorial Cup playing that way. McKee is a very good junior coach and he actually played with our core back in the day.

- Woodcroft deserves another shot. And, he has experience coaching superstars.

- Halpern deserves a shot more than any other assistant coach in the league, imo. He oversees the league's best PP, imo.

- Roy may or may not return to the Isles. His resume with young players speaks for itself. Our roster is probably going to be more to his liking than the Islanders for the next few seasons.

- Vincent had a bad ending in CBJ, but he has quickly turned his career around by leading Laval to the AHL's best record.
Don't you dare take him from us. lol

I all seriousness he would be a Dubas type guy. Modeled his system after Keefe's time in the Soo. Don't know how well he'd do with a rebuilding team though. The fans would probably sour on him before he gets his player's/system going in full gear.

Election day here in Canada, my childhood best friends birthday and what possibly might be even bigger news to me? They let Sully go!!

It doesn't matter if they get worse, it's that there is hope again.
It’s also the signal that they’re getting out of purgatory. Whether it’s good or bad. Being stuck in the middle is boring

Was going to mention the Sully statue, but been stated :D.

It must be related to more power and control. Like he has sole control of all under him including hiring and firing. I wouldn't like my boss firing people under me.

More sole decision making on who comes up/down from the minors.
Maybe also more say in the decision making in trades.
Basically growing into GM responsabilities.

I mean, didn't Dubas ask for Shanny level things when he was fired from Toronto? He had the Pens in his back pocket at the time, like Sully has the Rangers.

For f***ing real.

I already know this isn't going to "turn the team around." It's too late for that (at least insofar as this era).

But like... surely we can't be the only ones completely tired of watching this nightmare-on-repeat every night? Trotting out the same old tired bullshit unchanging and unwavering for years only to have your nose shoved in it every night? And it's not even EXCITING losses. I can take the losing these days I just don't want to have to sit through two+ hours of the hockey equivalent of the Ludovico technique every game.
Tbh bro I used to think this but after watching this year I think I’m just bored of losing and having no hope.

As far as the actual product- Pens were one of the most “exciting” aka high event teams in hockey last season. Gave up a ton of goals. Scored a good amount. Good powerplay. Bad goaltending. The numbers back it up. But I wasn’t excited watching them.

I think it’s just boring to play in meaningless games from game 1 to 82.

Eh I think they'll win a lot in the regular season and just end up with a late 1st based on that.

Why will they? Sullivan will love Miller and krieder and play them to death. If they hire Sullivan, any chance of them moving on from Kreider is gone.

He will destroy Laf, Zibby every further. I could see the breadman not having a good time either.

I dunno. I think there is absolutely something to this but to my eyes Sullivan plays a very, very dull brand of hockey. I completely believe you re: what the numbers say but this team spends the majority of it's time on the perimeter in all three zones pushing the puck around until they find some unscreened point shot or whatever. That and set plays... dear god all the set plays. If we can predict what is going to happen ever game then of course the other team will, too. It makes for a frustrating viewing experience to say the least.
