Confirmed with Link: Penguins and Mike Sullivan part ways

"Kyle not a single day goes by where I am not absolutely devastated about having Jansen unceremoniously torn from me like a wee babe from the bosom of it's mother. I cannot sit idly by any longer while you cruelly refuse to bring him back home where he belongs. Kyle... please... he's YOUR son, too! If you refuse to listen to reason then at least..."

KD: "SECURITY!"

We have footage of Mike preparing for the meeting:

Trade those young f***s I had to showcase in the top 6 at the end of the year for a couple 30 plussers or say goodbye to deez rings

*flips double bird*

Some insiders I trust like Johnston and Seravalli have been the ones connecting Drury to Sullivan, so I have to think Drury will get his man.

This makes the Chad Ruhwedel for a draft pick trade, followed by a Ruhwedel re-signing by the Rangers, far more sensical from a Rangers point of view.

Personally, I want him to take the NYR job. This rivalry needs to get back to being one of the best in the league. It starts here.

I'm pretty indifferent to this overall. The roster stinks and the pipeline isn't as good as people would like to think it is. I just don't think the coach moves the needle one way or another.

Frankly you are right. I'm relieved simply because I want to see anything other than Mike Sullivan hockey and also because I don't think Sullivan is the guy to help develop players moving forward but like... it doesn't really matter much in regards to results NOW. That's what makes all this infuriating. This is like five years too late.

This statement does not tell me it was mutual:
"This was not a decision that was taken lightly, but as we continue to navigate the Penguins through this transitional period, we felt it was the best course forward for all involved." - Dubas

Even though it looks like Dubas took a stand, maybe the Rangers news about wanting Sully affected the outcome.

I can easily see Sully justifying "unreasonable demands" while having a desirable spot being in his back pocket.

The timing cannot be coincidental.

Maybe the Penguins go after David Carle as the new coach? He withdrew his name from consideration from the Blackhawks coaching position yesterday, he's the coach of the University of Denver and has basically turned that program into a NCAA powerhouse.

NCAA national champions in 2022 and 2024, made the frozen 4 in each of the last 4 years. Also the head coach of the US WJC team, where he has won back to back gold medals.
I don’t know a ton about college coaches, but I heard Carle gets paid significantly better money than most college coaches and is really well regarded by the university. I feel like he would have more incentive to stay in Denver than go pro. I’d be curious to hear more.
