Confirmed with Link: Penguins and Mike Sullivan part ways

Who knows if that report is right but it was curious to me that they didn’t structure this as “we mutually parted ways”. The PR release was still a “we fired him”

I hope Sully's demands were about trying to pull up out of this nosedive with big spending all summer and the team's committed to tanking for a few years to build a core of elite talent through the draft before trying to build back up to competing down the road.

For this momentous occasion, some powerful quotes to ruminate on...

"my fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is finally over". -gerald Ford

"Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty we are free at last." - MLK

"Get these mutha f***ing snakes off this mutha f***ing plane" -samuel l.

"Ding dong the witch is dead!" - the munchkins

I don't believe that report because no one from 93.7 The Fan has any sources, but if Sullivan was making demands, it was probably "give me a better team to coach or I won't want to coach here". And Dubas and FSG were probably like "bet" and then agreed to let him go

Oh wow. I had a speech prepared and everything but it's been such a long time coming that I threw it away.

The new coach bump is definitely a thing but I'm going to go against conventional wisdom and say Sullivan isn't going to have much success post-Penguins. I guess if he uses this as motivation and really kicks himself in his own ass but Sullivan hasn't had to REALLY work hard in a while and I have big doubts he can find the energy and creativity to turn a team like the Rangers around. Because that's where he's going. I could be very wrong... it makes some sense on the surface. They have good veteran pieces and all that but are they SULLIVAN veteran pieces? How well will he deal with guys like Zibs and Panarin? Miller? Can he get some of their younger players to find another level? What about how he handles his defense? Were I Adam Fox or K'Andre Miller I'd be a little concerned haha

Regardless I'm just happy he isn't the Penguins problem anymore. Though of course we'll have to see who they decide to hire.

Carle was a builder at Denver, yeah? Maybe he really enjoys that. Anyone with a brain knows the Penguins need building. Nobody can offer starting a build while presumably still having Crosby

I could 100% believe Sullivan went into that meeting and demanded a roster with more proven NHL players (in the 28-30 age range) that fit his system and the style he wants to play, and then Dubas saying he wanted the roster to have more openings for younger guys just about to enter their prime but may need a little more development and Sully wanted no part of that.

I mean I'm not going to put much credence in that rumor but the idea of Sullivan stomping into the GM's office after this season and demanding a fresh batch of Noel Acciaris to turn things around REALLY tracks.

I was just talking to my brother about this. I’m sure Panarin is going to love Sullivan lol

Would be odd after all of the stuff we heard about Sullivan wanting to coach the Penguins through the rebuild.

But if I had to guess, it was probably "I'm not going to coach here unless you fix this defense" and Dubas said he wasn't going to focus on making short term improvements just so Sullivan had a better team.

Sullivan did great things with this team for 2 years. No one can take the back to back cups wins away from him. That said, this is a long overdue change and the reasons why have been discussed to death over the past few years. I am excited for the prospect of a new-look team with a lot of young faces in the coming seasons.
