Maybe the Penguins go after David Carle as the new coach? He withdrew his name from consideration from the Blackhawks coaching position yesterday, he's the coach of the University of Denver and has basically turned that program into a NCAA powerhouse.

NCAA national champions in 2022 and 2024, made the frozen 4 in each of the last 4 years. Also the head coach of the US WJC team, where he has won back to back gold medals.

The team (Dubas?) specifically mentioned a transitional period between eras of contention. I gotta imagine it'll be somebody from out of the organization. But I don't really give a shit tbh.

I have been saying them throwing a bag at Carle makes a ton of sense from an ownership standpoint. FSG got Dubas. They courted Epstein. They like these young guys who are “names”. Coaches too- Klopp. And so on.

The problem is why tf would Carle come here lol. Literally all we can offer is Crosby + patience? He should go to the Ducks.

Yeah, unless Dubas already has someone he wants from the outside, it’s someone currently on staff…I’m glad there’s at least a tiny bit of accountability for his failures over the last seven years mostly on the defensive side, even though it’ll be spun as “we’re going through a period of losing and there’s no reason to keep him around” lol…I hope Yohe gagged up his breakfast at this news

I wouldn’t say pressure. maybe internal. But that is a zero pressure market.

But competing right away is attractive. Dude is a coach. He’s a competitor and wants to win. The problem with Anaheim is $.

Coaching a rebuild is a death sentence in this league. I legit think we’d need to throw him an absurd bag.

This makes the most sense as typically you have a placeholder coach for 2/3 years until we’re hopefully ready to compete again.

I’d target Mitch Love as far as young up-and-coming coaches go. I could see Dubas looking into his contacts and giving Hakstol a call, though. Or possibly Malhotra or Paul McFarland.

I could also see Greg Moore as a Dubas target for the next head coach. He was the guy who replaced Keefe as the Marlies head coach when Keefe got promoted to the NHL. He was fired from the Marlies after Dubas left despite having a good final season there and is currently the head coach of the US NTDP U-18 team.

Basically hits both boxes of a Dubas connection along with a young player focused coach. Carle is the primary target but I think Moore is a realistic option too.

So apparently Sullivan had a list of demands/non-negotiables during his meetings with Dubas and FSG and they said those weren’t happening and agreed to part ways.
