Confirmed with Link: Penguins and Mike Sullivan part ways

So, on a scale of one to ten, how much schadenfreude are you going to feel every time the Rags lose a game next season?

I honestly believe the Rangers will be in a similar position the Penguins are in this year. They have literally nothing in their system, and their team has aged out and sucks. Sullivan isn't going to magically coach them to prominence. He will do what he did here, which was not win for almost a decade.

But like I said it’s really about the goalie. If you step back and simplify- Panarin and Fox both bounce back and Shesterkin plays better. We get pick 20-26 or so.

Division is weak. Im not saying they’re a top dog contender but macro level they could improve just on getting more from top guys.

Yeah, the East is such a shit that even the Pens could've been a playoff team this year if they got goaltending all season.

Just lame how much real estate he has in some people’s heads.
In my defense, I have a huge head.
Did anyone ever call out Bylsma? Hell, Shero gave up his position for him. Byslma might have been even more of a “players coach” than Sullivan.
Petr Sykora, just after they won the Cup, said Bylsma hates playing skill players and prefers the grinding types.

He was criticized for those comments, but it turned out he was actually quite correct. Many people just figured it was sour grapes from their time together in Anaheim.

Oh wow that's right, now that you mention it I do remember that. I think it was from a translated article. Got lost in all of the important things like Crosby not shaking Draper's hand lol

It’s funny how my entire outlook on this org has changed in the matter of a week. Have been fine with the direction Dubas has been going but the Sullivan overhang was real anytime I felt even a little optimistic about the future.

Letting Sullivan go was a big weight off this organization’s back. In terms of development, approach and even how I feel about Dubas’s evaluation ability.

I think Kapanen was a good pick at the time. He had a good draft year, he was a skilled guy, not some plug. He seemingly developed in a relatively upward trajectory the next 2 years. At 20/21 he was a PPG player in the AHL. Had a handful of productive NHL seasons. Seems like talent was never the issue.

Some guys just don't have it. But if you wanna start making picks based on character or maturity you're not going to be getting the most skilled or highest upside players.
I didn't like that pick from the get going. As far as I can remember, there were better prospects available, but JR was fixated on him. Trading a 1st for Kap was even dumber.

That said, I think lots of players didn't really get a fair chance under Sullivan. Bias..just one of Sully's many flaws.

So... would all you nice people recommend Coach Sullivan to a friendly neighbourly franchise?
Privet! Ya tozhe iz Rossii.😀 Really big chunk of us, Pens fans, (the smart ones hehe), are got tired of him years ago..

I wish he wold go to the West, so we'd just see him less.
He's a coach with a lot of flaws - stubbornness, bias towards some players, bad at adjusting, just to name a few.
A fresh start would benefit him, but I wouldn't expect miracles. A leopard can't change it spots. Some Sully traits are default.
