Penguins and Mike Sullivan agree to part ways

Veteran contending team but let’s trade Guentzel, the one player Crosby didn’t want moved and the logical next cornerstone.

QUINTESSENTIALLY Dubasian galaxy brained move.

We’re not laughing at you Pens fans, we’re laughing with you in that crazy way you need to make sense of it all.

I mean, should've been Dubas.

But I thought Sullivan was gonna last a little after Crosby retired. But I think they either try and get Rick Tocchet or hire a rookie coach. My guess here is they hire either David Quinn or Jay Woodcroft.

As for Sullivan, I think he gets work but I found him to be quite overrated. I say he goes to the Rangers.
For what? For starting a rebuild? The team hadn't won a playoff series in 6 seasons.

Veteran club but definitely not contending, even with Guentzel. Likely Sullivan knows the Pens are not making the playoffs for a long time. He wants to move on to a club with at least a decent shot. Rangers imo.

Dubas traded Guentzel when the Pens were about to miss the playoffs for the 2nd straight year and were the 3rd oldest team in the league (the oldest by far the year prior). No, they were not a "veteran contending team" but I'm not surprised a Leaf fan doesn't know what that means. The Pens didn't make the playoffs with Guentzel and they didn't make it without him, but now they have 4 more prospects in their system.

Dubas traded Guentzel at the deadline for horrible value, 6 months after acquiring Karlsson. To say this assclown has no vision would be an understatement.

Guentzel was traded because he wanted a nice fat deal (that he earned) and Dubas, acknowledging the team was ass, complacent and had no prospects used him to get 4 prospects. And the team has not been any worse with him gone, Rakell just slotted in his place and put up 70 points.
Yea, trading a first for Karlsson's negative value contract and then getting a collection of meh for Guentzel. What a series of moves

lol Dubas has a pretty clear vision. He said he brought in Karlsson to give the team a jolt and chance to prove themselves. They fell flat on their face so he moved a pending UFA instead of letting him walk for nothing. He did that again this year.

He then pivoted to rebuilding and fired a coach who wouldn’t commit to rebuilding and was going to be a problem.

Yes, Dubas clearly has a plan, which he talked about at length recently. It remains to be seen whether he will actually be able to successfully execute it, but he has a plan.
And … what’s his plan? Deep diving rebuild? Rookie coach who loses a lot.

Get younger and accumulate assets. Find a coach who will play and develop young players. Pens have a crap ton of picks and will get more this year.

Sullivan is awful and I am so glad he’s gone. He should have been gone 5 years ago.

So a young coach who will play youth because winning isn’t stressed. I think that’s called a rebuild. Zero chance Sullivan wanted a part of that.

The plan is obvious: Dubas wants a full rebuild which isn't possible with the old guard hanging on for dear life. Unfortunately Kyle is too spinless to take ownership as the man responsible for accelerating the process.

Right which is why he was fired. Which is a good thing. He underperformed when they could have contended and is not the person to rebuild with

So is the plan to just rebuild with the old guard in place?

Geno will retire this year. Having Letang, Sid and Rust around to mentor is not a bad thing. Didn’t stop them from a top 10 pick this year and won’t next year.

Bottoming out doesn’t always work ask buffalo and let’s see how Chicago does. Took Edmonton like 6 top 5 picks to figure it out too.
