Penguins and Mike Sullivan agree to part ways

3 Years too late

Hopefully for Pens, Dubas/ownership doesn't get delusional and try to buy/contend this summer

The pens rebuild is off to a decent start. 3 more years of tanking and they should be on path to be a good contender come 2030.

He had years remaining on his extension, is it paid out and he’s free to sign anywhere?

He basically insisted on not adjusting no matter what. Still tried to play the same as if the roster was in their mid 20s
We have gone through a number of tactical changes as the roster eroded away. We went through a more passive 1-2-2 phase a couple years ago, and then opened it up again late in the year and went on a run. This past season, I agree, it was just "ah **** it, let's just try to have fun" and those tactics were only appealing to the only line worth a damn on the team...

But the "adjustment" buzzword that folks like to parrot, isn't based on real events. I have seen a number of things over the years, in season, in series that he has "adjusted"...

This year felt like a tactical phone-in...so I think it was time...

We never did that. He never tried to play a more defensive game. And yes a lot of that probably had to do with what the players wanted but it was his responsibility to be the bad guy in the situation.

was hoping they'd keep him around they had no problem with the last 2 disappointing seasons with him

Wow, you mean to tell me FSG is actually willing to buyout coaches?

He can sit 2 years and collect his pay or he will most likely sign with another team and the Penguins either pay the difference of salary over 2 years or the more likely side of him getting a raise and we do not pay.

Let the bidding begin. If a GM knows he’s got a really good core, that is underperforming, he’s going to his owner to get a blank check for this coach. Rangers?
