Yes he very much has been a problem for a while. Team hasn’t won a playoff series in 7 years. A coach sticking around with that kind of lack of success is almost unheard of.

He's 100% going to the NYR. Drury apparently went hard after him in 2021, where Sullivan said he wasn't interested in changing teams at the time.

I think his style of play works well with Kyle Davidson's vision of the roster. I'm just not sure if the Blackhawks job is more appealing than the NYR one (or Philly, or whoever).

Not enough recognition in this thread on the fact that the Pens looked completely lost when Sullivan was hired and suddenly became a dominant force that would go on and win back to back cups. The threshold to fire a coach with those merits is insanely high.

I do think he gets player development. I do not agree about giving young guys ice time. Is he any different/worse than other coaches? No.

But not big on it anymore and that is why you’re seeing him canned with 2 years left on his deal.

Neither did I. But over time he 1000% got away from what made him good in the Cup runs and got stale.

I think he’s a very good coach but this was long overdue.

Sorry bud. Your take is way off. He basically insisted on not adjusting no matter what. Still tried to play the same as if the roster was in their mid 20s.

Yeah the roster sucks now but that wasn’t the case several years ago which is how long he’s been underperforming.

Guy hasn’t won a playoff series in 8 years. What other coach would get that rope?
